Iam going to get a job soon and i know iam going to buy a marshall amp. Iam thinking about a JCM 800. I heard zakk wylde uses them and is going to re release them. I listend to an old 800 at a guitar store and was shocked....it sounded great, like no other amp. It has smooth distortion and has a similar brown sound. So tell me if you know any news about new 800s!!!

I would recommend either an 800 or even better, a mid 70s JMP. You can get either a 50 or 100 watt JMP for around $600-$800. They too have that clean, brown overdrive.

For the record, Zakk Wylde's JCM 800's are heavily modified by M&G Amps out of Brooklyn. You won't get Zakk's sound from a stock JCM 800. You will get closer to Tom Morello.

I'd check in your local "Trading Post" type of newspaper, then I'd also consider ebay. Another great place to get stuf is out of Vintage Guitar Magazine. It's basically a worldwide industry mag for all the vintage dealers out there. JMPs usually go for anywhere between $500 and $900 depending on the year, wattage, condidtion, mods etc. Here's a tip: they all sound different, but if you have access to a decent amp tech, he'll be able to get it right for you. Buy it, replace the tubes with good quality ones, have the bias set and you'll be ready to go! They really are great heads ó you can crank the pre-gain to 10 and still not get that buzz/fuzz distortion, just a fat overdrive. Use a tubecreamer or your overdrive of choice to push the head into high gain territory. Ahhhh I love this stuff!!

Just a good over all set up on a amp will make it sound better and run properly. You'll get a great sound from just a stock JMP, without any gain modifications.

I don't know why they (900's) sound like that, but you guys are absolutely right. They suck as far as marshalls go.
