QUICK ANSWER:
Huge, loud sound with ridiculous amounts of bass, and a large amount of lower mids. Tolerable highs. Might get muddy through the wrong setup.

LONG BORING ANSWER:
It's slightly different than the one in the Axis, if you want to believe the rumors. I've spotted a fan on Harmony Central who supposedly requested DiMarzio's custom shop to custom-wind him a "Tone Zone Custom".

To more directly answer your question, it has a boatload of bass and lower mids. Probably too much low-end, "floppy" bass, depending on your rig. It'd be perfect for a thin-sounding guitar with a floating trem. That might even things out nicely. The pickup has a great deal of output.

Through my (old) 5150 amp, my Axis sounded tight, but through the low-gain amp I'm playing now, the bass can sound a little boomey. It's tough to explain. I've actually turned the bass down on my amp, although my amp has a little "lower-mids" button that I keep on all the time, so the tone is still quite warm.

My brother, houseofpain, has one in his Dillion Les Paul. It sounds nice though, the guy who my brother bought it from took out the factory pickups and put in a super distortion and the tone zone and, I don't know for sure, but I think he actually recoiled it himself. I only say that cause it sounds different from every other tone zone I've ever heard. As the dude before me said, the ones I've heard sound like they have too much on the low end. But in my brothers set neck, mahogany bodied LP, it sounds real good. So, they can be real nice, if you know what your doing and you wanna recoil it yourself.
