go to a teacher and learn your modes.

A good book is called "The Heavy Guitar Bible", it goes through you modes, and gives you some great exercises

Just to be anal....there is no such thing as a 'classical scale'. Scales are scales. The Don Latarski series of books is an excellent resource, but not much along the lines of examples. I think what you're most likely looking for is a group of fingering patterns that sort of end up resembling scales, 'cause Marty Friedman doesn't seem to play with much regard to the diatonic scales anyway.

Also, just to be a prick, learning a Megadeth tune or two is kind of a lame reason to learn scales; if that is your only goal, you won't learn any scales, you'd just be learning a finger pattern. As any experienced musician can tell you, scales are MUCH more than that. Just playing a scale has little to do with truly understanding it. I only mention this so that you have some hint that actually LEARNING a scale is more work than you may think.

EVH.....if I recall correctly, and it's been a LONG time since I've heard that song, the classical sound you hear hear is due more to arpeggios at the start of the solo than scales. It's not a real tough one to tackle, and if you aren't familiar with sweep picking, that's a good lick to start with!

Didn't mean to offend ya bud....was just of the mind to be a prick for a bit!

I went on a Marty friedman clinic here in italy last year !
Yep , i was blow away when i saw the way he take the pic (???) and when he's doing the scales he never mute the hand on the bridge ... and this is quite difficult !

He's a cool guy ... he started the clinic palying some Ramones riffs and black sabbath riffs , saying that these bands were his first inspiration !

on the Marty Friedman clinic i remember that a guy from the crowd asked him to play some tapping scales !
his replyes was : " I'm not able to play any tapping stuff ! ... I saw Eddie van halen doing this stuff and i figure that he was the king in this tecnics ! Many other copies him but where too fast that you can easily understand what they are playing at all ! Only speed with no feeling ! ... Eddie got the feeling , it's a part of him ! "

    Cool ... I mean !
