Does anyone have any tips on striping my own guitar ala' VH? I'm planning on making my own and figured it'd be a great learning experience and I have great access to parts and materials!

I've done it a number of times and it's always worked well, but I think Rol is the one who could explain it best if he's so inclined.
For my bodies, I've always started with a solid white undercoat. Then covered the body with different thicknesses of pinstriping tape, always making sure the tape is down tight, and the seams where the tape crosses itself are snug so no paint runs into the seams between peices.
Then I spray the red on. After peeling off the tape I've got a red and white striped body.
At that point I use masking tape to make just a few black stripes. The tape goes on the outside of the stripe, and I tape off the body with news paper so just the inside of the stripe is exposed. Then some black spray paint and it's done.
I finish it with a couple of light coats of poly.
I've used automotive acrylic, and enamel paint, as well as Krylon and they all work well.

Like I said, Rol is the master painter here. He does professional paint jobs which are beautiful. I've seen some bodies he's done and I haven't seen anyone do it better. If you want to do it right he's the best one for advice on that.

Thaks for the tips!!! I figured why not do it myself! If they won't let some custom builders so it for us then I'll do it myself! I was thinking of the new 1984 from Music Yo and getting one with the natural finish on it and whipping that one myself! Like I said, it'd be a great experience and I need a 5150 for my collection!
