Let me preface this by saying that I already own a Wolfgang Special, so I've been thinking about buy a much cheaper guitar that I can beat up and not worry about dinging it.

I've finally decided on buying the Kramer Baretta FR404S/R from MusicYo.com.

    Here's my question......

I know the first thing I'll want to do is swap out the pickups on this thing.

Which one's should I go with?

    Here's my list:

    1)Seymour Duncan TB-5 Custom
    2)Seymour Duncan TB-11Custom Custom
    3)Dimarzio PAF Pro
    4)Dimarzio Tone Zone
    5)Dimarzio Air Norton

Any ideas on what would be best for this (piece of crap) guitar?

    Thanks,

    Jeff

    My 2 cents:

I have both the Custom and the PAF Pro. I have tried a few of the others, but I canít formulate an opinion. Pickups are so damn hard to choose because playing them in a store does not do diddly for me. They all sound different through different rigs. The PAF and the Distortion (not mentioned, but another SD that I have) wail through my Marshall, but are a little too much for the Mesa. I love the Custom going through the Mesa. In a nutshell, they are so different depending on what rig I plug them in to. I love the Custom and the PAF through a tubed Fender. Man, itís so hard to choose these. How they are mounted and what they are mounted in is huge as well. I get numb just thinking about it!

Just so you know, and I'm not trying to discourage you from buying one, but those new Kramers from MusicYo are complete pieces of crap. They sound bad and they play bad. Other guitarist in my band bought one because he just wanted a cheap guitar to bring to practice and man, what a piece. Definitely get rid of the pickups, then dump the neck too.

I'm afraid Brett hit the nail right on the head.
If it plays well, and the action's good then you lucked out. If it's brand new then you'll have to play it hard for awhile(at least 3-4 weeks of steady play) settle the neck, and then get it properly set up. I'm afraid the new ones aren't considered workhorses like the originals, but since you said you're only using it to bang around on, and maybe use as a backup in case your wolf breaks a string, it may be fine.
The first thing you should do is block the trem from inside the trem cavity so you get a better sound, and the whammy only goes down like your wolf.
Going by the pickups you mentioned I'd strongly recommend the TB-11 Custom Custom.
It'll give you a good EVH sound, and good sustain and power, based on your body wood.
