I am thinking of buying one of those new Yamaha DG-Stomps after seeing some good reviews. However, I only bought a Zoom GFX-707 a year ago, and am wondering if it is worth getting the Yamaha.

I'm pretty new to the world of guitar effects units, so im a bit confused by the DG-Stomp being called a "guitar pre-amp with effects", and the GFX-707 being called an "effects pedal". In practice, whats the difference, and could I use the two units in conjunction with each other effectively?

Any advice for a confused effects novice would be much appreciated!

I'm not really familiar with either of those boxes, but here's a basic explanation to help you out. A "Pre-amp effects" pedal will also give you tones (distortion, cleans, overdrives), while a simple "Effects" processor will only provide stuff like delay, chorus, flange, echo, etc.
