Who is the absolute best live guitarist you have personally seen live? This means you got actual goosebumps when he played a solo or whatever turned you on?
Mine is: (So Far): Eric Sardinas...the best slide guitarist to step on a stage in the past 10 years. Sardinas opened for Steve Vai and I didn't know anything about Sardinas but he just blew me away!!! I have seen:Eddie, Vai, Nuno, Satch, etc...but this guy made the biggest impression because I didn't have any expectations!
I want to know when you were taken off guard and thought"HOLY SHIT" this guitarist is good!!!!

Great topic...The guy who dropped my jaw the most was Brian Setzer...I knew he was good, but he does the orchestrations for his band and his dexterity as a guitarist blew me away...I was 5 feet from him on the Dirty Boogie tour here in Sacramento...

I knew how great Ed was, so I expected his usual brilliance and he never has let me down!

    Steve Lukather.
I hadn,t never listened him before, but when
me and my dad went to see Toto on the Mindfields Tour, i was just amazed. He's good and underestimated. His and Eddies work
    is amazing.

Satch- I saw him from row 5 in a great sounding theater, and WOW. I knew he was good but that was stupid!

EVH- on the 5150 tour, he was at his best IMHO

David Gilmor- note choice and tone!! WOW

Ty Tabor- note choice and his rythme playing and his tone

Some Dude- I saw in 1993 in a a little dive in San Fransisco, he was using a Stieny with the trans-trem and he really made it a musical aspect of his playing.

Some other Dude- I saw playing in a dance band, he was using a Plexi and a rack and he sounded like a student of Frank Gambale

One of the best live shows I ever saw was Jeff Beck, 6th row center. Couldn't believe the sounds he was getting out of a strat.
Johny Winter was great to watch too, but Steve Vai is fuckin amazing.

This may astound all of you, and if you are not big fans, I understand, not everyone is. Neil Young. I saw Crazy Horse at the Gorge a couple years ago. This man plays very simple stuff, never fast, never complicated, but so emotion packed, you can't help but get goosebumps. You want to talk about tone, wow.

Neil. Go see him with Crazy Horse, and you'll be blown away at the way they play together, and the way he crams every bit of soul and feel into that old Gibson. Just plain amazing.

Neil Young is great! Nobody else on the face of the planet sounds like him. He's soooo full of emotion when he plays that he chowders it a lot, but he's as honest as they come
