As you all know Mars is going out of business. They have a new Telecaster for $720 after liquidation discount. It is an american made with rosewood board. Is this a good price? I have had a few guitars over the last 25 years of playing, but never a tele. I know I most likely got raped on my wolfgang and don't want to again. any advise would be great.
    Thanks

The rosewood board could indicate a few different models. Some are custom models worth a lot of money, others are just US made with rosewood boards.
Is the body bound, double bound(front and back), or not at all? Is it stained or painted, gold or chrome hardware?
Is the body ash or alder?
What was the cost before the discount?
Also, do you really want a tele, or does the idea of getting a US fender attract you?

    TRIBB,
This is not a cutom model for what I can tell, just an american made Tele.
It is not bound, it has a red paint with some "sparkle" to it, not just gloss red, chrome hardware, not ure on the body,$1,125 before discount. In case it helps, it had the multi layer pick gaurd. And yes, some of the reason I am looking at it is because I do like the idea of an American made Fender.

I did some searching on the web and this guitar is listed for $799-839 on most sites.

If you like the idea of playing a tele, then it's a very decent price if it comes with case and warranty.
The prices have gone down because they still make a large no. of them, it has nothing to do with quality. US quality is still very high.
Some teles are coming with alder bodies as well as swamp ash, but if you could phone the store and get the model no. then I could give you more information, regardless of what's on the website.
A no. of guitars are listed as being worth a certain amount(what they sell for), but are actually worth more on a collectability basis.
Get the model no. if you can.
Alder on a tele sounds warmer than ash, and not as bright, but every bit as good.
Your ears will have to decide if it's the right sound for you.

I just got some info on it.
If it's the same model no. as the site you gave me then their original asking price was right and they're selling it for the price of a used model in excellent condition.
That brings it down to what the body is made of.
Play it and see what you think.
You can always swap pickups down the road, but you have to bee happy with the instrument first.
No one can keep you from getting screwed on a deal if you're not sure whether you like it, and then go ahead and buy it anyway.
You got screwed on the wolf cause you got sucked into the "I've gotta have Ed's guitar" mentality, when Ed actually plays different wolfs as well as other guitars.
If you really like playing tele's and like the sound and feel then it is a good price for the guitar, but better if it's a swamp ash body as opposed to alder. With a rosewood board alder might sound too warm, but a no. of players like that over a bright ash tone.

    Thanks Tribb,
I will see about getting the model number.
Thanks for the info. I think that it is a fairly good deal, just need to decide if I like it and want it. I kind of got screwed on the Wolf because it was my second one. I had a first or second year black standard that I loved. I kept that guitar spotless and perfect. Then one day... three year old daughter, stariway, well you know the rest... ding in the front of the body. Could not handle it, so had to have a new one. Well by now the prices have sky rocketed, traded my black one and a wheelbarrow full of cash on a trans. red standard. Love it, wont ever get rid of it, but paid too much for it. I think I will go down to the store and play the tele later. If I do not buy it, I will get the model number.
    Thanks again

ok- Went back to Mars.. it was $639.00... called the wife on the cell phone and she was for it. Could not resist and now it is MINE. It plays very smooth and has a great tone. Everything that I was expecting.
    Thanks for all your help.
