I'm looking for an amp that is $500 or less that can really belt it out. This is not a lot of money for a GOOD amp, but was curious to see what you'd recommend for that kinda cash.

The sound I'm looking for is obvious.

Here's what I've got to play through whatever amp you recommend:

Wolfgang Special
Kramer 1984
POD XT
MXR Phaser

Any thoughts on a great amp to compliment this stuff?

Yamaha T100 or T50. You can get either the head or a combo. Amplifier is based on the Soldano SLO 100. Actually designed by Mike Soldano, and built in USA by Yamaha. 2 separate eq's, gain control for each channel. Clean channel is very old school Marshall, low gain. Dirty channel is pure Soldano high gain tear off your head raunchy.

Cheap and fantastic. I have the T100, running it at 50 watts. Actually use the clean channel almost exclusively. (Get the "FUCK" tones from Soldano.)

How does it compare to a 5150 combo (used)? I do have a chance to buy a used 5150 for about $550.

What what you do in that scenerio?

Thanks for your help!

$550 sounds good to me if you really like the 5150 and want to have real tube distortion.

Having a POD XT in your rig, I'm assuming you dismissed the Line 6 Spider amps. They are in that price range and sound great for the living room user.

Although come to think of it consider this: you probably could feed a PA system with your POD XT without a problem, giving you all of the XT's tonal possibilities. I'm sure you can find a strong little PA system for $500. For a while I ran my own POD through the stereo with great results.

Well, I'd think that the two dirty channels would be really similar. The dirty channel on the Yamaha has unreal amounts of gain, as does the 5150. Difference is, the clean channel, which on the Yamaha is freaking beautiful, and independently controlled via it's own EQ.

Now, combo for combo, the 5150 is a twin. Big cabinet upgrade vs., the single 12" on the Yamaha.

Head for head, Yamaha, combo for combo, 5150.
