Mine were both off-the-rack. Anybody here have any experience custom ordering one with the exact options they want? I'm just curious about the wait, and if it's even possible. I have a hankering for a very paticular guit...

I got mine off the rack (actually purchased before it ever got to the rack). But, now, I wouldn't think you could order one. They stopped making them, (you could get an Axis).

Sorry..I made it sound like I was talking about an EVH. I meant an Axis (Sport, actually). I just wondered about ordering from them in general.

I'm not sure about the Axis, but I remember someone on the VHML came up with a single pickup version of the EVH(when he was still with EBMM). He contacted EBMM and was told that they do not do custom work(they were allegedly too busy). Like I said, I'm not sure that would still be their answer.

well, my buddy recently ordered an EBMM petrucci model, and he had the choices of all the wingdings he wanted, so i would assume it would be the same for the axis.

About the only options you have on the Axis is color. For instance, you would not be able to order a Axis Super Sport with a Floyd Rose, or an Axis with a tone knob and a 5 way switch. This is just from what I have seen on the Ernie Ball website. You may have some options with woods, but that is unclear from the website. It is also a real bitch to try to get any information from customer support at Ernie Ball. I bought my Axis used, so I tried to find out if there was any special value to my particular instrument. I have a natural colored flame-top Axis. I asked if the natural flame-top was a limited production, and approx. how many were made in that color option. The reply basically said that it was proprietary information to tell how many were produced in that color and could not be disclosed. Regardless, I'm still extremely happy with it, and I highly recommend buying one.

I whanged the shit out of an axis super sport with an ash body and a MM trem recently.
The strings were flapping like elastic bands for a good 20 minutes and it stayed in tune.
Nothing wrong with those MM trems, but go for the ash body, no matter what p/u's you choose.
The neck on the axis super sport is as close to an EVH as you're gonna get.

My plan was/is an Axis Sport (ash body) in Silver Sparkle, with a maple neck and board, plain maple headstock, hardtail, 2 hums. So no really custom options, pretty plain and simple really...I just dunno if I'll be able to find that exact guitar in stock anywhere.
