    Friends,

So, I've finally, after literally a year of tweaking, gotten my old Ampeg to sound good. Not only good, but really f@#@$cking amazing. Even the clean channel is almost clean. Now on to the next issue.
The dirty channel sounds great, but I need a little volume boost for lead parts. I have a little crappy overdrive pedal that I hit and it brings the volume up a bit, but not quite enough, and it sort of muddies the water. Any ideas what to use to add some volume, maybe a bit of gain, not much though to my dirty channel that would be foot controlled? I've tried volume pedals before, but thought it sucked the tone out of my dirty channel when it was on the low volume. I guess I'm looking for a "solo" button.

Thanks for your support on previous posts.

A TS-9 Tubescreamer works great for that. Set the level all the way up and the gain all the way down. You smack the shit out of the front end of the amp, get it to compress and wha la. . .instant lead boost! If you want a little more gain to your lead tone just turn the drive level up a hair.

This may sound a bit strange but an EQ pedal works good as well!

I've gotta agree with Jape on this one. I use a TS-10 pedal through an old fender, or traynor amp just to boost my signal without affecting the sound of the amp, which an eq pedal might tend to do. I don't need it on my marshall, but through an amp where you just want to push more air through the speaker they're great. I'd stay away from the new sound tank series though. They sound like shit.
By the way HU, thanks for the advice on the POD. I tried one that sounds different, and even after my raving I think I'm gonna try one out again.
