If you really want to learn to play, make sure you learn your basics. Theory can be thick to swallow sometimes but the rewards of the lessons learn will pay you back for the rest of your life.

Set goals for yourself. It doesn't matter what, just set realistic goals, and force yourself to reach them.

What I used to do was spend a week on theory, and a week learning the things I wanted to (songs, licks, patterns etc). If I didn't accopmlish my theory goals for that week, it would carry over to my fun week so I learned to time manage pretty quick

    Above all, have fun

What's important now as well is to strengthen the muscles in your hand, and toughen your fingertips.
You can tell about your fingertips cause they'll hurt like hell for awhile, but you'll be working the muscles in the back of your fingering hand. If those muscles really start to ache, take a rest, and don't try to do too much at once.
Find something you really like to play and play the hell out of it, even if it's repetitious. Your teacher will take care of scales and theory, but you've gotta build up those callouses and muscles gradually so you don't get discouraged and feel the pain isn't worth it. It is worth it.
    Have fun.
