Its that weird wobble pick scrape sound for lack of a better discription that he does at 1:02 into 'Dirty Movies' and :50 into Meanstreet!
How does he get that sound???

For dirty movies he's not scraping at that point. He's just sliding and stretching the string as he moves up and picking the notes to the timing of the song as he moves up.
In meanstreet, he's using a flange for that rolling affect, and while holding his pick verticle to the strings, lifts and drops it quickly in time to the music as he scrapes it towards the headstock and then back towards the body. He mutes the strings with his left hand while he does it. It's a small movement, so you don't want to go too far on either side.

It's definately the flanger you're talking about.
I think he rubs the side of his picking hand on the strings while muting with his fretting hand like in Atomic Punk although he's using the flanger instead of the phaser.

I couldn't find anything on dirty movies until I switched my balance to right speaker only.
There is an effect in the rhythm guitar.

Thanks guys, Eds always doing little tricks that sound cool and I hope he will again someday when he feels better! I know how to do the Atomic Punks effect so this does not sound to much harder. Good thing I have a flange and phasor!

Glad I could help someone after all the help I've got from these guys
Tribb might be right on the Meanstreet effect.
I still can't get past the intro

I just tried it without my flanger and got a VERY similar sound to what's on the record.
Maybe you don't need it after all

I've been playing those two songs for about 7 years as part of our setlist and that's what I've always done for those effects.
Right or wrong, it works.
