I use mine every time I play. About 10 minutes into playing I wonder why I am sounding so muddy. I twist the tone thingy and boom, I am sounding good again.

Mine's wide open all the time! Every now and then I check it, but if it fell off, I'd likely never noticeL

I can get a zillion tones out of my strat messing with the tone control. Other that that my other two axes don't have one (Wolfgang special and Charvel model 2).

I play a Gibson Explorer and keep tone on 8.BUT I toggle between bridge and middle positions a lot and use lots of combinations between the volume knobs. Takes a while to learn. Freinds didn't like the "bite" of wide open 10 on bridge position all the time. Wide open is adrenalizing but you should "tone" yourself to your audience.

I unhook all of my tone controls, so you can turn them all day and they do nothing. It's a simple operation and I can always go back to the original way if I want to, but I never have.

The only time I use it is with the neck pickup with the tone fully off (the sweep is lousy on my guitar anyway, so it's like a tone on/off switch really), Stick the phase 90 on, fingerpick "little guitars" style, like ,three strings simultaneously and; Hey Presto! You can imitate the sound of a distorted electric piano a-la "Cradle Will Rock". Ta daaaaaaaaaaaaaa! Never EVER use it for anything else though.

No, hang on, if I'm playing with feedback while singing and the sound gets too squealy or intrusive, you can fiddle with the tone to hold it back and change the note that's sustaining. That really is all I use it for though...

Eddie says they are useless. I mean if a guy who has one of the best ears in music ever says he cant tell the difference after he moves the tone knob around what's the point. To be exact he said "why do they even put these on guitars? I don't know one great guitarist that messes around with histone knob." Eddie didn't even bother to put one on his Special.

The tone controls on my G&L seem to actually work better than on any other type of guitar that I've owned. One is a bass cut and the other is a treble cut.To my ears if your gonna have any kind of tone control this works the best.
