Does amyone know how to describe the finish on Ed's main gold music man? I have a natural one right know but I am ordering one through a dealer and I don'y know if its a curly maple or a quilt top! I know its not a flame (that is the finish on his backup from the pay per view). Any suggestions on how to descibe what finish top I want? I know the wood varies but when I am spending $1400 I would like it to be close.
    Thanks guys

Curly Maple and quit Top are the same thing. I would express that you want the same look as Eddie's main Amber guitar. The company will know what you're talking about. But, essentially, they are the same.

The flamed one (tigerstriped) yellow was his main axe on the Balance tour. Not a back up.

I have one just like it and it the most beautiful guitar I have.....

Amber quilt top is what you want though. Just like the JapeMan said......

Ed's early goldtop is a quilt, but it's actually referred to as curly maple for the look Ed has on his. If you see his purple EVH, that's more of a regular quilt.
Those tiger flames are nice too. I just sold mine. Don't worry H., I'm still holding the purple for you..lol
Marc, if you're getting a quilt top for 1400, I wouldn't worry. You're getting it at a steal.

    Tribb,
Congrats on the collection. You have the envy of many on this board (lucky bahstad)

Anyway, how much variation is there on the finishes and wood? I have been drooling over the listings at www.guitarhangar.com but I recently test drove a purple quilt ( Sam Ash in NYC )that was downright ugly. The purple almost looked gray or black. They had a sunburst too, but it also wasn't as nice as I had expected.

    Look forward to your comments.
    Peace,

Some of the purples faded, and some faster than others..lol
Some faded to a pinkish color, and some like you said to a greyish, and some faded altogether so they've gone back to a brown losing their tint altogether.
A good no. of blacks tend to go that way too, fading to a grey or greenish tint.
It doesn't affect their sound though.
A good no. of them are plain looking compared to a PRS or something like that, but still nice in their own right.
I have a blue that is a gorgeous color, but has the wierdest top you've seen.
I'd go by the feel and sound. You might have one that's butt ugly but could sound amazing. There aren't enough of them around
to worry that much about looks. The guitar hangar does get some nice ones, but tend to keep the prices high.
