I'm trying to "nail" the opening to Mean Street and I'm looking for advice on how to get it to sound spot on.

For the most part, I play it exact as it pertains to the notes. However, it sounds a bit too muddy or cluttered through my 5150. I'm not sure if I need to take something off the amp or turn the volume down a bit on the guitar. I'm also intereseted in ant technique advice.

I watched Eddie play it at NAMM and I noticed after he plays the very beginning slap piece up at the 2nd and 3rd fret, he does the first run down the 5th fret with his index finger(hammering at the 12th with his right hand) and then moves his left hand where his index finger is over the 3rd fret and he plays the next run with his ring finger at the 5th fret. I don't believe the 3rd fret is ever played in the opening so I didn't understand why he does this.

    I appreciate your insite. -MojoDojo

I'm sure he doesn't play it exactly the same way everytime. There are probably slight variations to it as long as you have the same feel, tone and vibe.

wolfman gave me some good advice on this one and it helped!

roll back the volume a bit for one.

secondly as far as that left handed slap technique goes, move it up the fretboard a bit until ya get a better sound out of it.

    worked for me

I was watching Russ Parish play it last night and he was playing the left hand part at about the 4th and 5th fret.

I tried it through my practice amp and it does sound good. I need to try it though my big rig however.
