I was wondering if anybody has used a POD module to record or play with. I'm not that familiar with it, I believe it allows you to plug into the sound card of your PC and has all kinds of killer digital 'modeling' of various amps. I'm not sure if it can be used as a sort of pre-amp or not. Just curious.

I own a POD--it's a GREAT unit! The only time you hook it up to your PC is when you want to access some extra functions you can't get from the unit's front panel. There's also an update chip that allows you to do those things, plus it adds a half dozen new amp models, WITHOUT using the PC.

As far as recording, I've used it quite a bit, and it sounds incredible. However, its reverb SUCKS--you'll need an outboard unit if you really want good effects. But as far as a basic tone, PODs are great for damn near anything you could want.

The delays stinks pretty bad from what I've heard, but ty was using a rack POD the other night and an EQ and it sounded great!

Homeunit, I heard the delay on a POD 2, and it sounded great. The guy that owned it told me it was more programable than the first version.

Homeunit. . . Ty is using Mesa Rectifiers on this tour. He's got the POD in his rack and uses it occasionally. He did record the new record with the POD though. My band is going out on tour with King's X at the end of the month, so I'll be able to give you more details on his rig then!

Hey Jape, (you lucky bastard) I was 3-5 away from ty the whole night, and I did see the rectifier in his rack, but it wasn't on! Maybe because the club was so small? I don't know. I can only imagine that the rectifier would make him sound that much better. Have fun!

Jape, that's really cool and should be fun. What's the name of your band?, and do you have a site we can check out?

    Hey:

Finally got the chance to try out the Line6, and it sounded absolutely killer. However, I thought it was very noise (through an amp). Has anybody else had this problem, and how have you resolved it?

Also, I just found out about a similiar product by a company named Johnson, does anybody have any experience with this? I believe it has guitar and bass capabilities, and also has the ability to go into a sound card for the PC, where the POD doesn't...

If the POD is plugged into the front end of the amp (ie where you'd plug your guitar in) you're using extra gain stages, which always creates more noise. The best way to run a POD is into the effects return (or 'power amp in'); that way, you're only using the power section of the amp, not the preamp.

The built in noise gate works wonders, but it only controls noise before the unit; running into the front of an amp will still hiss like crazy.
