I did have a Peavey 5150, but I got rid of it. A real piece of junk. I got a Soldano Hot Rod 50+XL instead. If you want the classic Eddie Van Halen that's very close to it. Soldano Amps Rock.

    Hey Diamond welcome aboard!

5150's are pretty stinky if you ask me, I had one for about 5 years and finally dumped it.

I use a modded 78 Marshall JMP. It's got 2 channels and an extra gain stage, and some other stuff, it works good.

I tried the Soldano stuff years ago, and while they're better then the 5150's I still didn't care for them all that much.

My next amp will be a dual or triple rectifier.

Mesa Triaxis with a 50/50 power amp.
Two Boogie 1x12 3 quarter back cabs under the stage so I can crank the shit out of the amp.
Also a Rivera R100 2x12 combo in custom green.
That is an unsung hero of tone.

We should also do a settings thread.

Kay 15 watt powerpacker, with reverb and tremolo.
When I'm going for a really big sound I switch on my 25 watt peavey 1x12 bandit with simulated overdrive for that brown sound.

Don't be embarrassed bro. Some people really like the 5150, some don't.

When I had mine I had 1 wicked tone I could get out of it, but it was an involved process and the whole reason I bought it was for channel switching.

I do find it odd that Ed used 800's on the Balance tour though

    A 5150 here!

I do hear a lot of people say 5150's suck, but then.........aren't they pretty cheap in price compared to Mesa and Marshalls. My head was less than $600.........isn't that pretty cheap in the world of amps?
Actually I think most of us are Dave, Sam, and Mike fans. There's just a small group of people who have strange allegiances and like to get into petty pissing contests that I can't believe everyone on this site isn't bored of. - Brett

I bought mine two years ago used, in perfect condition for $300. Yes 5150's are worlds cheaper than Mesa's, not even in the same league. I am not a big fan of new Marshalls, I think they suck goat balls personally.

Marshall JCM900 about 4-5 years old. People talk shit on my amp, my setup and the whole 9 yards, laugh at the super overdrive pedal when they see it and then I plug my shit in and they get quiet. One of my new bandmates works in Guitar Center and I had to constantly hear shit about how anything but a Mesa Boogie or Rivera is junk and now he's like "can I borrow your Marshall for a weekend so I can make some demos?" I think Marshalls sound good, Boogies have more low end which a Marshall can't replicate but oh well..

I seriously considered buying this Rivera head a few years ago, until I realized that no matter how loud I cranked it, I couldn't get any crunch from it at all. After that, fa-get it.

I haven't had any luck with the newer Marshalls, but from the 800 series back, I love em!

You just can't beat that tone of a Marshall with the right guitar going through it.
