is it difficult? I have a new non-tilt neck prepped for a floyd, but no string retainer bar. is it very hard to install and what size bit would i need?

It's actually one of the easiest parts to install.
The screws for string retainers are usually very thin, so 1/32 to 1/16" bits are usually fine, depending on the thickness of the screws.

Make sure the height is even on both sides, and when you look at the headstock from the side, the string retainer should be about 1/16-1/8" lower than the point where the strings come out of the back of the nut toward the tuning keys.
You're just trying to keep the pressure even across the nut, and you don't need much.

Especially with a Floyd, the string retainer must be lower than the point of the strings exit.
If it is hight then when you tune a string with the clamp loos then tighten it it changes the tuning of the string so you have to tune it again with the fine tuners, you should be able to tune your guitar with all the clamps loose then tighten them and nothing should change.

Yes, I'm very sensitive and you've hurt my feelings you prick.

LOL, actually I just sort of assumed a player would know why, but I guess I shouldn't have taken that for granted.
We probably should have just said, go into a freakin music store, look at the other guitars with string retainers, and do it like that.
