Hi Guys,

As some of you may or may not know, I have just spent the last two weeks in Melborne, Australia. It was a fantastic experience.

Just thought I'd tell you a little story about a guitar related experience that I had while I was out there.

I met up with my brother out there and he had been out to the Hard Rock cafe. He told me tha Richie Sambora's guitar was in there.

I went there later on, and was walking around and could not find it on the walls. The waitress said that she would give me a list of what they had there, but she kept forgetting to bring it to me.

In the end, I went to the merchandise booth. My brother had said it was right near there. So I leant in the hatch and asked the girl where the Richie Sambora guitar could be found. "Oh, you mean this one ?", she responded, pointing to the guitar held in the glass casing of the opening that I was leaning on.

I leant back and realised I was leaning on a glass surface, underneath encased the Richie Sambora signed green telecaster. I looked at it for a bit in awe of the guitar, then I said to the lady, thinking out loud really, "Oh, I'm not going to get a decent picture of that am I, the flash will bounce back off the glass!"

She replied with, "That's no problem mate, I can take it out, you can hold it and pose with it if you want. It's not one of the ones featured on the wall so there is no problem. You can play it as long as you want !"

I almost shat myself ! I told her that I had just ordered my meal, but I would be back.

The meal was awful, but was wolfed down fairly quickly. Then I went back to the booth.

Sure enough, she got the guitar out for me. It was terribly out of tune, and try as I might, I couldn't tune it in exactly. However, I had a tinker about on it, and it was a really nice telecaster. Then, after about half an hour, I gave the guitar back feeling very pleased.

Then I talked with the girl for another half hour about London and England and snow and de-icing your car. Then I went out, a very happy customer.

Pictures to follow if they come out alright.

Just thought you guys might be interested. It's a much better response than the :

"That guitar does not come down for ANYONE !"

response that I got when I asked if I could hold the Van Halen Wolfgang at the San Francisco Hard Rock Cafe !

The girl looked like Goldilocks. So although she was very nice and sweet and talkative, I could never ever fancy her.

I was quite excited with the guitar though. Sad but true.

Got the photos yesterday, and they came out really well.

However, the Missus has taken them to work today to show her mates, so I'll scan them in tonight and post them tomorrow.

(By the way, the Van Halen drum kit came out really well too).

I'll keep my post polite as you seem like a nice guy...

so I have to ask you when did Sambora become a guitar god? I've got that Crush Tour DVD and I like Bon Jovi, but he doesn't play any guitar solos or anything. I've just never thought of him as a top guitarist by any means...I think if it wasn't for Jovi being on Alley McBeall, they'd be playing shacks like the one in Rhode Island that burned down.

Cool story! I once saw EVH's guitar in a Hard Rock Cafe many years ago. Not sure if it's still there. I would think it would be.

BTW, I'd like to play with Ritchie Sambora's wife.

I've always thought of him as a guitar God. I've always liked the way he plays guitar and the bluesy way that he approaches it.

Okay, he doesn't do the million notes a second that so many other players do, but he's written some great riffs and he plays with feel. I love it !
