I noticed a few people had posted links to some of their own recordings so I thought I would do the same, if anyone's interested. These are a couple of tracks from a demo I recorded about 18 months ago - I never got around to doing anything with it, so it's just kind of gathering dust on my hard drive. For those that are into such things, these were recorded using a Boss GX700 preamp into Cubase VST with a Yamaha SW1000XG soundcard. The MP3 encoding has added a little harshness to the high end unfortunately .

This track shows more of my EVH influence
Se7en - 2MB

And this one owes more to Danny Gatton and Dick Dale
Charlie Don't Surf - 2.62MB

Finally, I thought you might like to hear a patch I made for the GX700 that to my ears is pretty close to EVH's sound around the Fair Warning/1984 era. There's a couple of riffs and then a little of me noodling around - BADLY! I haven't had much time to practice for the last year, so I'm a bit rusty, as you'll hear
Some riffs - 1.33MB

Thanks for listening!

Thanks, 5150atomic. As the old saying goes, it's close enough for rock'n'roll!

hey, the se7en thing really blew me off

and i would say that this is not influenced by eddie, i would say this is influenced by some cool irish traditionals, i love that how you mixed some irish influences with your own style dude ( ah, i see, youīre from the most beautiful place on earth )

and donīt hit me but the last song has to many ed riffs in it... maybe itīs because iīm working in a guitarshop, where everybody plays van halen riffs all the time

Very very nice. One of the best I have ever heard on this board. Sounds great through my new headphones on my computer. Great job and thats some nice clean playing for a change, no sloppy licks for sure. So how long have you been playing and whats your age.

EVH have you been over to the "Play your favorite VH riffs" thread? There's awesome playing over there! Someone needs to go in and revive it.

GREAT PLAYING! What else can be said? I REALLY like your dynamics on Charlie Don't Surf!

The intro and some of the rhythm guitar to 7 sounds Jeff Beck "Blow by Blow"-ish with EVH playing lead. Great solo.

Thanks to everyone for their kind comments.

To 5150 atomic - Yes, it's a late 80's Charvel Model 2 with a Seymour Duncan JB at the bridge. And talking of Jeff Beck, he's one of my favourites, so maybe you're right about 'Blow by Blow'. He was on TV in the UK on New Year's Eve playing an instrumental version of 'Need Your Love So Bad' with the Jools Holland Rhythm'n'Blues Orchestra - class! I made everyone at the party shut up so I could hear. He also did a blues number with Robert Plant.

To Edward Van Halen (?!) - I'm 30 and I've been playing since I was 14.

Thanks again, folks.

Charvel2, very nice stuff. There was nothing "off" in any of it, very imaginative and off the cuff.
I can tell you're a player that just likes to play, and puts his time in, and it shows.
It's really refreshing to hear something like Charlie Don't Surf. No gain, no filler, no bullshit, just a good song.
I couldn't stop smiling while listening to that one.

Me too. I kept thinking what a cool tune that would be to have playing at a party.
