I'm planning on buying an amp this winter. Any opinions on the Line 6 series. Also, what's the difference between the Wolfgang and Wolfgang Special? I liked the Special that I tried out better. The Line 6 AX2-212 is going for $900-$1100 here in Western Massachusetts.

I happen to be very knowledgeable too when it comes to amps since I've had 13 of them. The Line 6 is most awesome. I almost bought one but I saved $200 by buying a Crate DX212. I am a big fan of DAM's( digital modeling amps). I compared the two along with a few others and found that for the money, the Crate was the best deal. You have a 5 year warranty as well and Crate will bend over backwards to help you. The only thing I'm going to do is put in some Celestions. I can't find hardly any faults with this amp. If you like tinkering with alot of sounds for $600, this might be worth a listen. The pedal that you can order with it is around $179.

Dont get a cratedx . Its good for old rock sounds...but not van halen. It doesnt pack enough distortion or gain. YOu cant get anything more than a simple led zeppelin sound..and the amp barely gets that.

Uh... EVH, you are wrong. If you have guitar with Seymour Duncans( ie. JB-Bridge, Jazz-Neck) and you choose the tube rectifier setting, you can mimic most anything off of F.U.C.K. This setting has too much gain at times if you ask me. How muddy do you want it? My amp feeds back when I turn the gain all the way up.If I like a cleaner tone (ie. 1984), I use the 60's era UK setting. If I wanted Eddie's exact sound, I would have kept my 5150. I like different sounds and I depend heavily on different types of guitars and pickup combinations to get those sounds. It's really not so much the amp as it is the guitar. I've had enough amps and guitars to know. If you want over the top gain, I would recommend a 5150 or a Soldano. If you want a ton of variety with good sounds and not spank your wallet, I recommend a Crate DX212.

Is that the 120 watt crate your talkin about? I think the amp was pretty expensive....600. Im gonna buy a marshall. The crate just doesnt deliver hard rock sounds. The dx cant even come close to any metallica or alice in chains sounds. And f.u.c.k ??????/ What other settings do you put your amp on when you use the fuck sound?
Before you buy the crate, read the reviews on harmony central. Also you can only use a distortion pedal on the clean amp model. Anything else will sound terrible.

I also like the special better. I think the specials neck is different from the standard wolfgang.

The POD is awesome. I'm buying one to compliment what I already have. EVH, I have the 120 watt version. I got mine for $ 579.99 at a music store in south Ga. I get enough distortion by turning my gain knob all the way up and by having a guitar that has a Seymour Duncan JB pickup in the bridge. It sounds to me that you want more gain than that even. I like Eddie's 1984 cleaner sound as opposed to Metallica's overly fuzzed out sound. I guess you would have to add a tube screamer to get what you want. Get a 5150 or a Soldano. You will have a total tube saturation meltdown.
