Anyone hear the latest Satriani album "Engines Of Creation" where he plays over techno tracks? I just picked it up and while finding it "different" at first have kinda grown to like it. Some of you purists might find it too "computerized" for lack of a better term, but I think it helps take his playing into another direction. He still shreds like always. Any thoughts?

I saw Satriani in a small venue on his "Extremist" tour, and man live that guy is unbelievable. He's so clean and plays with a lot of feel. I have his Crystal Planet disc, but I haven't listened to it yet!

I just saw Joe Satriani in Vancouver BC on May 20th. It was a small venue as well. The concert was unbelievable !!!
Actually what happened was Joe was playing in Seattle the night before the Vancouver show and Eric Cadieux(The guy who does all the techno computerized stuff) couldn't get across the border the day of the concert...So the concert didn't have any techno vibe to it(Which was cool!!). I don't mind the techno bit to his new album. It's kind of cool and different, but I went to see Joe and his guitar...not computerized noises.
Also, Joe's bassist, Stu Hamm played the most amazing bass solo I have ever heard!!

I like Satriani so much that I don't care
that some of his new synth stuff takes
a little getting used to.He's also changed
tempo with some of it.You just know that he's
doing exactly what he wants to do and that
he knows where he's going. That guy sends me
to another planet,I just absolutely loved
Crystal Planet, man I must have played that
a zillion times.I's say I was more lost when
he made his self titled (bluesy album)Joe
Satriani.I liked the studio stuff on Time
Machine too.I gotta ask if anyone knows anywhere I can download him playing live(I
mean video)I've got VH playing live, even
Steve Vai has got quite a bit of that Quicktime stuff at his site, but Satriani is
proving to be a big challenge.

By the way Satriani has his head shaved because he has his brain overclocked and
he needs the skin surface area to dissipate
    the heat efficiently.

    Thumbs down for the record.
Why is everyone choosing new directions? Aren't they satisfied with what they've done? Or lack of creativity? Or trying to reach new sales figure? Anyway, new Satch record is the worse of his catalogue. I'm one I found Crystal Planet boring. This one still doesn't catch me, I'm gonna putting it on the pile of the wasted cds.
Naturally live he's a different planet. He kicks ass, but he's always got a great band (Stu Hamm worked wonders on stage, and his solo blew Satch himself away). Very clean sound, great songs (the old ones), and great technique. He was even a great composer...
