I've been livin in a hotel for basically the past year, and there pretty much ain't no way I'm gonna be miking a 5150 combo...I go home sometimes, but rarely get any recording done there

I've been considering the purchase of a Marshall DSL401 or other similar amp, and was wonder how well the speaker emulation works...Obviously you're not gonna get the same head/room dynamics of pushin air you would with jacked speakers, but I was wonderin if anyone records with one of them bad boys...(Tribb gave me an idea I've read about before, building an amp box and then making a port for the mic and what not, but that is just too much shit to have in a hotel room)

I'd really like to get an Orange combo, but it seems like a wasted venture at this point...

    Anyone facin similar prob's?

Dude, if you want some quiet recording, get you a POD or a J-station.

I BOUGHT A CRATE RED VOODOO SAMMY HAGAR MODEL FOR THAT VERY REASON. I CAN RUN IT STRAIT OUT TO MY RECORDER AND WITH A LITLE EQ AND CHORUS I CAN NEARLY NAIL EDS BROWN SOUND.AND THE KICKER IS I CAN LISTEN TO WHAT I'M DOIN THROUGH THE HEADPHONES WITH NO SPEAKER NOISE AT ALL.WICH MEANS NO BITCHY WIFE (I LIKE THAT PART MOST OF ALL) I HAD A DSL 100 WATT HEAD FOR ABOUT A MONTH AND JUST THOUGHT IT SUCKED CANAL WATER. I HATED IT AND BASICALLY GAVE IT AWAY TO GET RID OF IT AND WILL NEVER OWN ANOTHER MARSHALL AMP AGAIN BECAUSE OF IT.

The Pod works great for this kind of idea. It doesn't really sound like the real thing but it works well for demoing stuff.

The thing I always ask myself is what is the purpose of this recording? If I'm going for a pro job it's done in a studio where the amps can get cranked. For demos I use whatever is easiest.

The cool thing with the pod is you can use your tracks in a finished product. If you're recording to hard disk you can import your tracks to adat or tape and blend a real amp in with the modelled tones. I've done it and it works well. That's where the pod is great. If you want to beef up tracks it can add some meat to them while the real amp is the primary tone.

Well, an effects processor or modelder isn't what I had in mind. I've already got two Digitechs and I've never been too curious about trying a POD.

Everybody and their brother plays a POD it seems like anyway...GEC5150 pretty much has the setup or idea I'm goin for.

Fuck it, maybe I'll check out a SansAmp TRIAC or somethin...Thanks dudes

    Hi there,

Whatever you go for, I'd make sure you have insurance for the gear. I took a guitar pedal to a hotel room one time and one of the hotel staff stole it.

I couldn't prove it of course, but I just know who did it.

Thankfully, I had insurance on it, and just got the cash to buy another one...

    Cheers,
