Don't ask me why, but I picked up the new Guitar One issue with Puddle of Mudd on the cover.

Is it just me or do these new "guitar players" piss EVERYONE off?

Wes Scantlin on why he likes his Les Paul's:

"They don't have Floyd Roses AND they don't have whammy bars[laughs]! I played an Ibanez when I was 16, with a Floyd Rose AND a whammy bar, and I couldn't tune it".

I can see the ad now...FREE whammy bar with purchase of any Floyd Rose. I was always under the impression that a Floyd Rose IS a whammy bar, guess he just likes to break the unit down into two seperate parts...whatever.

Paul Phillips [the other "guitar player"] on his playing:

"My playing is basic. I'm not trying to show off or do any finger trickery to show that I know this scale or that."

O.K., that fucking cracks me up...lol..."This scale or that", man that is too funny.

Paul on how little Wes knows about guitars:

"When he's on the road, you can turn every knob on his amp the exact opposite of what it was, change his strings, maybe even change his guitar, and he wouldn't even know."

I believe him.

I can't remember the name of the song they have out, but it is pretty good. Straight ahead, hard rock thing going on. I just think it's a shame how little these new guy's know. Instead of learning how to tune and work a Floyd, this guy just buys a guitar without one.

Now now, leave the MUDD alone. They are a local KC band and have been playing the clubs here for at least a good 8 years.

WOW!!! HOLYFUCKINGFUCK!!! What kind of Twilight Zone am I living in? What kind of Viagra-Testosterone mix are these 50 year old + guys on? I never thought I'd hear another Dave and Eddie album again. If I did, I thought it would be a mid-paced affair like the Rolling Stones or later day AC/DC. After the TATTOO single I was ready for a poppy album from old guys, with a few nods to harder rock (She's A Woman and Bullethead) and I would have been happy with that.

I NEVER THOUGHT I'D BE GETTING A FULL-THROTTLE HARD ROCK, HEAVY METAL, BALLS TO THE WALL, FUCKING VAN HALEN THRASH METAL ALBUM!!!

There was only that main cat Scantlin, the rest of the guys Durst helped him find.

More bs conjecture from Durst, because as JD said, they're from KC and have been playing here for years...

Ok its sad that these guys are "professional"(I use the term lightly) guitar players, and they don't even bother to learn anything more than they "have to" about their instrument.

However the saddest part is that Guitar One publishes an interview with them! The guys don't know shit about guitars, scales, theory, etc... So what is the f*(^)(&ing point in Guitar One interviewing them?? I'm not saying anything about these guy's music, because from what I've heard they have decent songs(I don't like them, but thats subjective to musical taste). My point is Guitar One are the one's to be pissed at here. They're interviewing these guys because their all over MTV and Radio and happen to play the guitar(but obviously are sticking to the lowest amount of skill you can use to get by). By interviewing these guys, Guitar One is just making it "cool" to not use a guitar with an extra feature that can be used for more expression on the instrument(the floyd), and also making it "cool" to think that scales and technique are pointless. That my friends is what is sad. I'm not even saying these guys should be shreding, tapping, and sweeping arpeggios. But if you're going to write your own songs and want to improve upon that you need to know some scales, theory, and technique. And the way the music biz rotates, people are starting to become sick of bands playing the same 4 power chord stuff thats been around since the early 90's, and want to here something new, and are expecting more from guitar players. When the landscape of mainstream music becomes more favorable to skilled guitarists and musicians, these guys are going to be out to the dumps just as fast as hairspray and spandex were traded for flanel and greasey hair. Then they might rethink what they think of as "pointless scales", and learn how to tune more than one kind of guitar.

Rant over.

excellent post larry j. i totally agree.

and i always thought that the floyd was the actual bridge, and the whammy bar was a separate entity. however, you can't have one without the other. and that proves my my original thoughts about POM.

hey, don't worry about it, if you don't ask, then you'll never know.

it's the kind of bridge that ed uses on most of his guitars. it allows you to use the whammy bar frequently without the strings going out of tune.
i can't really explain it very well, without a picture. maybe someone could help me out.

okay, i just stole the pic from the other thread.
notice the bridge it built like that. that's what they look like. notice the nuts at the top of the neck, you tighten those, and that way the strings won't go out of tune when you go to town with the whammy bar.
