If I get a line 6 pod, would it make a cheap rogue 212 amp sound better? A rogue 212 is $199 at musicians friend.

Since everyone hears things differently, only you could answer that question after trying it.

I used to use a pair of Peavey Classic Chorus 212's. They are solid state amps, but they sound pretty good both distorted and clean. The best feature was the pre-amp bypass. It had inserts on the back panel for the left and right channel. I ran my Pod into the power-amp inserts and bypassed the pre-amp on the amp all together. This setup sounded pretty damn good. I'd have to assume that the Rogue uses cheaper components than the Peaveys, but the power amp section should be relatively transparent since it's solid state. That being said, if the Rogue has power-amp inserts that let you bypass the pre-amp stage, you should be able to get some pretty nifty tones out of it. Granted, it's not gonna sound like a cranked Marshall or a Soldano, or a Mesa....but it'll be close enough to keep you happy for a while.

i think a POD would sound OK with the amp as long as you used the clean channel. the POD's distortion and the amp's distortion combined may make it sound like crap-ola...

I tried my POD into the 5150 combo on the clean channel, without any drive, and was basically able to use the amp as a PA. It works, and allows you to use the various settings and effects through the amp.

I also used to run the POD through an old stereo, and it worked wonders, especially in an apartment setting.

Can you disable power amp and speaker emulation on the POD's? To me that is always the problem with running these amp modelers through guitar amps. To my ears you get this "squashed" sound that lacks the highs you would normally hear when running the amp modeler through a PA or headphones.

Brown Sound 1, I think you need to select the cursor on the top left of the POD to AMP mode, and not Direct. I don't have the POD with me to confirm it.
Anyone here care to confirm for BS1?

Yup, you can disable speaker emulation, and should do so when you're running it through any kind of guitar amplifier, so the guitar amp supplies the power amp tones and the pod just works as, or with the preamp.

I wasn't sure, since I didn't own a POD. I just kept thinking back to how the old Rockman sounded when plugged straight into a guitar amp....like shit.
