What are some of the most memorable, instantly recognizable guitar riffs that you can think of?
I'll get the list started:

Iron Man - Sabbath
Smoke on the Water - Deep Purple
Whole Lotta Love - Zeppelin
Roxanne - The Police
You Really Got Me - Van Halen
Cold Shot - SRV

Well... "instantly recognizable" is kind of a relative term, so here are a few of my all-time favorite riffs that have always made me instinctively just crank it the fuck up:

(in no particular order)

"Flyin' High Again" - Ozzy/Randy
"Unchained" - VH
"Man in the Box" - AIC
"Sex Type Thing" - STP
"Satch Boogie" - Joe Satriani
"Couldn't Stand the Weather" - SRV
"Little Wing" - Hendrix/SRV/Andy Timmons (all 3 versions are just fucking incredible!)
"For the Love of God" - Vai
"Black Diamond" - KISS
"Pull me Under" - Dream Theater
"Master of Puppets" - Metallica
"Cemetary Gates" - Pantera
"High Landrons" - Eric Johnson
"One of These Days" - 'Floyd
"Highway to Hell" - AC/DC
"Jet City Woman" - Queensryche
"Rainbow in the Dark" - Dio
"In my Dreams" - Dokken
"Spirit of the Radio" - Rush
"Gimme back my Bullets" - 'Skynyrd
"You've got Another Thing Comin'" - 'Priest
"Run to the Hills" - 'Maiden
"The Zoo" - Scorpions
"Black Star" - Yngwie
"Black Dog" - Zep

Shit! Sorry... I got kinda carried away! LOL!Hell, I could do this for freakin' HOURS! Seriously though, these are probably a good representation of all the riffs that have really meant the most to me both as a music fan and a musician over the years. I'm sure I'm forgetting about 9,000 more, but hell... gotta leave some for somebody else!

SBS

P.S.
"Carry on my Wayward Son" - Kansas
(Sorry... couldn't help it!)

Freewill - RUSH
Fly By Night - RUSH
Red Barchetta - RUSH

Needless to say Alex Lifeson and the boys deserve a place in the memorable riff Hall of Fame! Looking forward to their long overdue release Vapor Trails (rumored title)

just a comment on "black dog" - it says in the may issue of guitar world that the riff was written by john paul jones and not jimmy page. still a great riff though!
