First of all if any one of you have seen the live version it kicks ass. But I was messing aroung with the chord progression I believe its A and G at the beginning and it sounds like he got the flanger or phaser going too. Any thoughts. It just one of the best intros ever in any genre of music

You, sir, have good taste in intros! It's also very fun to play.

    Hey Cabo,
Your hitting individully AEA (As an A chord), then AEB for the beginning, and D Gb G and then later you progress an Fminor chord structure and to GCGE... I'll post a slow clip if I get time later.

Also, I don't think that I saw in mentioned here that he has his low E tuned down to D.

Interesting. Are you using your musicians ear or did you read that somewhere? I'm not doubting it. Because if you really think about it sounds similar to Unchained which is in drop d at least in the Oakland 81 show. It just kicks ass! Can we say that Fair Warning is the best VH album ever!

Most of "Fair Warning" is in Drop-D tuning. "Dirty Movies," "Sinner's Swing!," "Hear About It Later," and "Unchained" are all in Drop-D.

The low E is tuned down one step. However, that would be starting from Eb which would make it Db instead of D. Almost every song on Fair Warning is tuned to Db, Ab, Db, Gb, Bb, Eb. The only ones that aren't are "Mean Street", "Push Comes to Shove", "So This Is Love?" and that other one at the end.

Gracias for the responses. I think drop d sounds cool when the low D string drones when harmonized with the higher D. Its a cool effect. Now I need another guitar!

most of those were written on the piano that's where the drop d comes in, it's easy to play that note but when you convert it to guitar whooops it can't go that low
    so hence the drop D.
also you can play that intro without dropping that
    E string go here
