None of them are totally easy if your really trying to get Eddies feel but the real problems I have had are with Eddie's funky timing. The "Thought you'd never miss me......" part of "Unchained" I've never gotten right. And the verse of "On Fire" where you can hear Eddie sliding his finger up the fretboard is REALLY funky.

I still can't hum that part of Unchained...."thought you'd never..".......how the fuck would I ever play it!

My dream is to play "5150"......someday......
Actually I think most of us are Dave, Sam, and Mike fans. There's just a small group of people who have strange allegiances and like to get into petty pissing contests that I can't believe everyone on this site isn't bored of. - Brett

There are several that come to mind:

Intro to Mean Street
Ice Cream Man solo
I'm the One (entire song)
Hot For Teacher solo
Summer Nights solo
Humans Being solo (3-8 fret tapped section) Ed's got a hell of a reach, I can't even come close to doing this one!

Some of Ed's rythm's are tough, you can play the notes but it just doesn't sound right. How about Drop Dead Legs? The part after 'dig those moves....' he uses the whammy bar, but I can't for the life of me get it to sound right.

Actually 5150 is not that bad once you get the hang of it. I'm not a great player by any stretch, but I can do a pretty damn good version of 5150. Just start off slow and get the palm muting to sound right, then work up to speed. This is an awesome tune to play with a band/drummer, when the drums kick in you get the chills, one of my all time favorites!

Gotta agree with Etrigan, the "thought you'd never miss me..." part of "Unchained" is real tricky, so are parts of "The Full Bug", ALL of "I'm the One", "Big Fat Money", "Little Guitars", "Hang 'em High", and most of his rhythm stuff, really.

As well-renowned as Ed is for his solos, to me, his riffs have always been what really makes him an all-time great. As Guitar Player put it, "He's an even better songwriter than he is a player..." and "Along with Jimi Hendrix, he may be the best rhythm guitarist ever". Testify!

The "Ice Cream Man" solo. JEEZUS! I've tried to learn that a few times. I always give up in frustration! And that was with Tab in front of me.

Does anyone else no what I'm talking about in "On Fire"? That slide he does in the verses is just so FUNKY! I used to play it with a cover band and I did it off the top of my head. When I went back and REALLY listened to it, I heard that. How did he come up with that shit???

Interesting to see that no one mentioned "Girl Gone Bad" to this point. In my band, this is the song my guitar player has the toughest time with (among the VH songs we do).

"The Full Bug", "I'm The One", "Unchained", "Hang 'Em High", "On Fire"...he plays all these tunes to a T start to finish.

Actually, "Hot For Teacher" is also pretty brutal...glad I only have to sing this stuff...

Funny, I always thought of that as an easy part.

One I CANNOT nail the timing of is the Runnin' With The Devil solo. Seriously, that fucker has given me more trouble than anything else from Ed's catalog. I can get the notes, but I can't for the life of me get the phrasing correct.

The Mean Street intro and "5150" were other VERY difficult ones for me.

The intro to "Amsterdam" always gave my band timing problems.

The only song that gave me any kind of problem is the solo to Big Fat Money. It sounds like he's playing out of tune and he doesn't use a whammy in that at all, so it's hard to nail. I had it about 80% down and then realized our singer can't sing it worth shit, so we scratched it.
Problem solved.

Wow, I've seen a couple people say this and it surprises me.

Maybe this will help:

For each phrase of the solo, which happens to be one measure each, strongly accent the notes on beats ONE, TWO, and THREE.

(pickup notes)ONE ee & uh TWO ee & uh THREE ee &

Hit those downbeats HARD, and the phrasing should work itself out.
Don't bark at me...I didn't name ya.
