What is everybodys thoughts on action. I just got my cheapie Kramer Focus 1000 set up professionaly and I told him drop it down all the way than raise it up till it just stops buzzin with .009's on it. Makes sense to me less distance to push the strings but am I missing something here?

For my EVH style guitars with a floyd I'm the same. 9-42's with action just high enough to stop as much buzz as possible. On my strats with a standard trem, 10-46, with the action considerably higher for a different style of playing. Jumbo frets on both though.
How about you other guys.

So you got the SRV thing going on with your strats. I just want to know how the hell he was able to play Scuttlebuttin' with cables for strings and that high ass action he used.

When I started getting into Sweep Picking more, I decided it was time to go to heavier strings and higher action.

Well the Jackson's a floater, so let me tell you, I had a mother fucker of a time setting that son of a bitch up. I broke like 2 or three high E's just setting the fucker up. I checked the site and shit, and decided to add an extra spring. That did the trick, but what a bitch. I guess I like higher action than I used to(I thought it helped some for the Mean Street intro, although I can't play it all the way through), but I still like low action, like the wolf's are setup.

But the Jackson is ridin high right now.

My Strats all have 10-46's and what others call high action (although I prefer to think of it as 'medium').

I used to use 9's and have low action until I started teaching, as I used an acoustic. After countless hours of sitting with the acoustic, I grew to prefer the feel of the higher action and the response of the heavier strings to the pick. I switched from 9's to 10's on my electrics and raised the action to approximate the response of the acoustic while still being playable. I doubt I could ever go back.

non stop talker, this is the guitar forum, and we're guitar players so ask anything you want as often as you like.
Stevie could play that shit cause he's Stevie. He was incredibly talented in my book. You really have to work a strat physically to get it to sound the way you like.
I don't think my actions as high, and I know my strings aren't as heavey as SRV.
I do manage to get a pretty good tone out of my favorite strat. I LOVE the sound of those guitars these days. I've been doing a lot of blues jams.
I wish we still had the site to post sound files to. I'd like to post a song with the strat so you could see what it sounds like.

I use 9's and low action of my Wolfie, and 10's and higher action on my Fender because I personally think the Fender sounds better that way.
And beyond the horizon.... a sound was heard.

I use D'Addario XL.010-.046 on my Paul Reed Smith & my Strats. I tend to keep my action on the low side, but since I will NOT use a trem bar, it's high enough that I can get my fingers in there & bend the shit out of notes. EVERYONE asks why I dont use lighter gauge strings? I tried 09's & they didnt have the balls .10's have. That, and I would tare through a set in 2-4 songs.. lol (BTW, I havent broken a string in longer then I can remember). Strings are all about "feel". What works for one player on a given guitar, may not work for another player on the same guitar.

Kinda like going out and picking up a chic. She may feel right to you but not to someone else. It's basically the same with guitars, etc.

I use 10-46 (sometimes 48). My action is low, I actually like my action a bit high, but right now it's a lowrider

9's on all my guitars except my Les Paul, which has 10's. Low action on all. I don't like high action at all, but I do have my acoustic set up higher.
