Try to make this quick.

Has anyone here tried recording a Mic'd 5150 combo, and if so, how were the results? Also, I've heard "Slap a couple SM-57's and your good to go." But I don't really know shit from shinola about recording a Mic'd amp. I've done it, but in a preschooler fashion. So how do you go about doing it using either a basic four tracker, or a Boss BR-8.

Next. Calling all Wolfgang Special owners. What do you think of your axes? Did you pay less than $789 for one? (Non-Flametop owners).

Also if you own a Wolfgang Special on top of a Wolfgang Standard, how do you think the Special stacks up? Same goes for anyone with experience with both guitars, how does the special stack up?

Thanks dudes

I've mic'd a 5150 combo on big stages, small stages, and in the studio. I used sure 57's. I like the mic's, but you don't want my opinion on the amp.
Homeunit knows mic'ing setups. He does a lot of studio work.
Why don't you help him out Homeunit.

Out of all the Wolf owners and VH loons in here, noone cares to comment on the Special vs. the Standard?

Come onnnn...

I'm really interested to see if there is a big tonal difference between the two, cause I already know the aesthetic differences.

In my experiences with the Wolf and Wolf Special guitars, there was a pretty big difference sound wise between the two. And from the ones I've played, there is even a pretty big difference between the Special and Special Flametop, probably because the Special is solid basswood and the flametop has a maple top, like the Standard. I use to own a Wolf Special, but got rid of it and bought the Special flametop, and I like the Flametop much better. It sounds better, and it looks a heck of a lot better. When I first bought the regular Special, I payed $800 for it new. Lately, I've been leaning the same direction everyone else is about new guitars, and I'll probably get Warmoth or someone like that to make my next guitar or two.

In my experience there is a little tonal difference in the Standard and the Special, the maple top gives the standard and flametop special a little extra midrange and top end. I have a black standard which is all basswood like the special and I like the tone from it a lot. I know a lot of people around here don't like basswood, but for me the tone is great, and I've open mindedly compared it to a lot of guitars out there and it is what works for me. Tone is subjective and the only way to know what works for you is to try em all till you find what you like.
