Hey guys!

I'm palying my Wolf through a few pedals - Boss delay/reverb combo - a chorus, flanger & MXR.

I'm not satisfied with my tone. I'm thinking a multieffects processor may get me closer to VH tones.

What do you think & what do you reccomend?

5150 combo As for tones I'd like to be able to dial in something real close to early and later.

The early tones aren't going to happen no matter what you do with your 5150. The 5150 will sort of get the FUCK and Balance tone, but you have to remember the tons of rack gear Ed ran for those tones as well as the production of the album itself.

From OU812 back Ed's tone was Marshall and a 5150 will never sound like a Marshall IMO.

Those are exactly the pedals I'd use, actually.

I'm not big on effects racks anymore, and switched to analog, especially for chorusing.

Unless you have a few grand laying around for an Eventide, you better stick with what you have, or you may be sorry.

The Wolf through the 5150 = not early Eddie tones.

During my last days with my 5150 combo, I was using the low sensitivity input, and playing through the Rythm channel with the gain set reasonably, depending on the tune. The presence must also be kept reasonable, same with the resonance.

Using the Lead channel is absolutely out of the question, obviously. Not enough "slack" in it...it's too compressed and "even".

I'm also assuming you're not lining up all those pedals at once, otherwise you may possibly be killing your signal.

Unless you've entered the early stages of "pickiness", you should be able to reach a tone that is enjoyable and fun to use.

Russ from the Atomic Punks and I use a multi-processor, the Alesis MidiVerb 4.

I then use a MXR Phase 90 and MXR Flanger.

I can agree with this. I've always liked Delay/Reverb and subtle Chorus ala FUCK/Balance from a rack processor. But for Phase/Flange/Thick or heavy swirl chorus, pedals all the way.

The Midiverb is a good unit, the TC G-Major is also very nice, I also like the Lexicon MPX 100 and 500, the 500 has more programability but I loved the 100 I had for ambient effects like verb and delay.
