Rush's 'Vapor Trails' Due In May
March 14, 5 p.m. ET, Billboard

Canadian power trio Rush has set a May 14 release date for its upcoming Anthem/Atlantic album, "Vapor Trails." As previously reported, the set was recorded in Toronto, with band members Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson, and Neil Peart serving as producers and longtime collaborator Paul Northfield engineering. A North American tour in support of "Vapor Trails" is expected to begin in June.

The new album, the follow-up to 1996's "Test for Echo," features 13 tracks. Opener "One Little Victory" is described by the label as "propulsive," while "Sweet Miracle" is said to be "emotive," and "How It Is" has been deemed "kinetic." A first single has not yet been announced.

"Test for Echo" was a No. 5 hit on The Billboard 200, with its title track vaulting to No. 1 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock Tracks chart and "Half the World" reaching No. 6 on the same tally. "Different Stages," a three-CD live album spanning shows from 1978, 1994, and 1997, bowed at No. 35 on The Billboard 200 in November 1998. Lee released his Atlantic solo debut, "My Favorite Headache," in December 2000.

Here is the tracklist for "Vapor Trails":

"One Little Victory"
"Peaceable Kingdom"
"Ghost Rider"
"Ceiling Unlimited"
"The Stars Look Down"
"How It Is"
"Vapor Trail"
"Out of the Cradle"
"Earthshine"
"Sweet Miracle"
"Nocturne"
"Freeze (Part IV of 'Fear')"
"Secret Touch"

Nice, I can't wait, finally an album that I might actually go out and buy on the day of it's release. Can't say I've done that for quite some time.

And six years later, Rush returns. I'll definitely buy it the first day it is released and see them on tour.

I haven't really cared for their last few albums all that much, but here's hoping the extended vacation (aside from the tragedies involved) gave them enough of a break to make a good ol' Rush album (i.e. before Signals).

Fontcow, didn't see this earlier. I just posted the same info though not as in depth as you.

I'm pretty excited to hear this one. Perhaps, one day soon will be reading a similiar type press release about a certain band from Pasadena, California...but I ain't holding my breath.

I posted this and then never had the time to respond myself.

I am a big Rush fan from all the way back to 1979 with the release of "Permanent Waves". That "Spirit of Radio" guitar pull-off lick and drum fills had me hooked from the very start. Saw them finally in 1984, 5th row, for the "Grace Under Pressure" tour. I loved it, "Moving Pictures" and "Signals" a lot, but "Signals" did begin the heavy leaning towards synth-driven rock that would follow with "Power Windows" and "Hold Your Fire". I thought "Presto" was a great rock record only to have them follow it up with the awful "Roll the Bones," save for a few good songs. Then "Counterparts" came back with a rock hadn't heard since "Moving Pictures". They followed up with their last record, "Test for Echo," which was a mix of hard rock and rock pop, but overall a good record.

Now Rush has been one of those bands that existed for a long time with no breakups, no public disagreements, etc. They really had no conflict and I wonder if they became complacent adults (millionaires) even in the late 80s and into the 90s. Now no one wants to bestow tragedy and suffering onto anyone, but you take what happens in life and you throw it into the stew. I sincerely hope that after the tragedy they have suffered the past few years they are a bit reinvigorated and rock the world.

I sincerely look forward to "Vapor Trails" with reinjuvenated excitement towards a new Rush album. Even the title suggests the remnants of something which has passed and is gone, yet still remains as a visible reminder of there where you once were. Vintage Peart.

Van Halen and Rush, while 2 totally different kinds of band have been my favorites, going back 20 years. Due to extenuating circumstances, they're output has been pretty lean the past several years. I'm happy at least one of my 2 favorite bands is releasing an album soon.
