Picked it up today . Great cd . Not one complaint . Neil Schon rules as usual . The whole band shines especially the new singer , Steve Augerri . If VH would ever get off their lazy ass , I'd be even happier .

I'm going to have to see if I can download any of the tracks and give it a listen before I think about buying it.

Saw the Direct TV concert this weekend. Augeri does a competent job on the classics, mimicking every nuance Perry's vocals. Of course, he doesn't quite have Perry's range, but who does? The new stuff isn't bad either, I guess...

I don't know--it's just NOT JOURNEY! To me, Journey is Perry, Schon, Cain, Smith and Vallory--period! Yeah, you can throw in Gregg Rollie for a few tunes, but without Steve Perry's wailing vocals, it's just a good (but not great) imitation. Sorry guys.

I said this in an earlier post, and I'll say it again: the best thing to happen is for Perry to call up the boys and say "The hip's fine, I'm feeling great, let's give it one more run". Augeri gets a pink slip (leaving without a huff, which would be the classy thing to do) they get Steve Smith back, go into the studio and capture the magic again.

I guarantee that if they can produce another album like Trial By Fire (if you don't have it--get it. It's brilliant), they'll be poised for a massive comeback.

FYI: Journey will be on the radio this Wednesday night (Rockline?). They will be in the 107.7 FM "The Bone" studios in downtown SF. This show is being broadcast nationally.
I saw them in '81 and I saw them in 98 and 99. Augeri won't dissapoint in concert. You'll be pleasantly surprised, I think. And I believe they will even change the set list somewhat from night to night (at least I read that about their recent Japan tour).

Did any of you know that Geoff Tate of Queensryche auditioned to be the new lead singer of Journey and he was turned down?

It's true, I will post the artice if anyone wants to read it.

Well if there are any fans out there that can accept a new singer, They MUST be Van Halen fans.LOL

Like Sammy said many times, "Van Halen fans are the best on the planet, I really mean that."
'Old Van Halen, when I was in it-classic Van Halen-makes you wanna drink, dance and screw, right? And the new Van Halen encourages you to drink milk, drive a Nissan and have a relationship.' - David Lee Roth.

I have seen Van Hagar a couple of times but I really am just DLR/VH fan. Like Geoff Tate, Sammy was already successful so pairing him is wierd. But Augeri is not a singer I heard before. And it works, even though the range isn't as wide as Perry. But Perry was in love with his voice and it got the best of the band. I haven't heard the new album. But I did notice that Augeri didn't write much of the material.

Okay Steven B, here it is in a Neal Schon interview. He also talks about why Steve Perry left the band.

I like Queensryche much more than Journey, but it might have been a great team up.

Personally I'm kind of holding out and hoping for another Hagar/Schon collaboration in the future - ah, but we call all dream, right?

Something of merit for VH fans I noticed in that interview:

quote:
Can you explain why the lack of information available on the band over the last 6 months or so? Was that a management thing?
Well you know, all this stuff has been going on while we have been trying to settle stuff with Perry. It is very difficult if you start talking to people and you say something that someone doesn't like, then it is going to take an extra 2 months to get them to agree on something else.
    It's just a touchy situation.

I'm with you, SNM. Schon has always been one of my favorites and Sammy--well, he's just Sammy, ya' know?

Through the Fire by HSAS is still one of my all-time favorite albums. I have a cassette that's probably close to 20 years old of this thing. Taped it from my buddy's LP (yes, an ACTUAL vinyl record) scratches and all. I've considered trying to find it on CD, but I don't know if I could stand to hear it without all the noise. Kinda gives it a classic feel.

Anyway, if anyone's out there who doesn't have Through the Fire, you're missing out on some Grade A rock 'n' roll!
