Very classy performance by Steve and I'm glad he's still in the mainstream. They sounded good together. At least Furtado is a songwriter. It's good to know that great guitarists are still recognized...Rarely, but he was at least

I watched it, and I have to say that although his playing was great, his tone sucked the fat one.

WOW!!! HOLYFUCKINGFUCK!!! What kind of Twilight Zone am I living in? What kind of Viagra-Testosterone mix are these 50 year old + guys on? I never thought I'd hear another Dave and Eddie album again. If I did, I thought it would be a mid-paced affair like the Rolling Stones or later day AC/DC. After the TATTOO single I was ready for a poppy album from old guys, with a few nods to harder rock (She's A Woman and Bullethead) and I would have been happy with that.

I NEVER THOUGHT I'D BE GETTING A FULL-THROTTLE HARD ROCK, HEAVY METAL, BALLS TO THE WALL, FUCKING VAN HALEN THRASH METAL ALBUM!!!

I haven't seen the broadcast yet...My wife is cool enough to record it for me!
I like to hear that he played great but I have to ask: his tone sucked the fat one compared to who else at the Grammy's?
Just go for it!

I wuz a-gonna aks ya what relevance vocal talent has in pop music anyway, and what should you do but name the last real bastion of musical aptitude in the MTV wasteland...

Vai is one cool lookin' dude. Roth should pick up the phone, and put down the star on the dressing room door. Make it a true partnership and make some great music.

And in case my heterosexuality has come into question, and in keeping with the direction this thread is taking, I got three words for ya...

Did someone here say that Alicia Keys has TALENT?@?!??

HA!!!!

That's some funny fucking shit right there. Todays Pop music culture (Read: Rap/Soul - LOL!) has been given some heat over the fact that none of them are talented enough to actually play instruments. I, myself, have been guilty of making such comments towards Rap "artists", etc. Now they have decided to make it appear as if they can actually play instruments. I say BULLSHIT! These fucking losers couldn't play their way out of a paper sack!

I suppose they want me to also believe that people like Britney's Pears are actually singing while doing their stage acrobatics (for lack of a better term).

Joe, put down the crack pipe...

I'll be first to say that 90% of the alleged "R&B" and "soul" these days is neither. Shit, Marvin Gaye was probably doing cartwheels in his grave last night when Brian Mc Knight couldn't figure out what fucking key he was in singing that gospel song at the end.

Alicia Keys is different. The girl has "it" in her voice. As for her piano playing, she's been doing it since she was 5 years old. And she started with the classical stuff, just like a couple of Dutch kids you might have heard of. The last TV show she was on, she started off with Beethoven's "Fur Elise". And she was definitely NOT faking it. And let's not kid ourselves, the fact that she's beautiful can't hurt.

Sure, there's a lot of complete SHIT out there right now. But that doesn't mean nobody with talent will ever get signed again. It can happen... Like in the late 80's when a band called Living Colour rose above a herd of plastic transvestite talentless hair bands. Or when a band called Van HALEN told the Bee Gees where they could stick their disco balls........

Roth should call Vai and Sheehan up, and Bissonette if need be, although I think Ray Luzier is a great drummer...if Ray stayed that would be kool...but if no VH then let's have EEAS!!!

Alicia has talent but her voice and that style of modern R&B singing is just annoying, give me the good ol' days of Motown any day...

Is it just me, or did anyone else think that Steve Vai could pass as Tommy Lee's twin brother?
