I love ballads, I think Sammy Hagar and David Coverdale write the best ballads and love songs, they must have had a lot of bad relationships when they were younger.

Here are my favorites......

VH: When It's Love, Can't Stop Loving You, Love Walks In....all Van Hagar ballads actually.

Sammy Hagar: A Deeper Kind Of Love, Back Into You, Returning Of The Wish

Def Leppard: Hysteria

HSAS: Missing You

Whitesnake: Is This Love, The Deeper The Love, Now You're Gone

David Coverdale: Too Many Tears

Extreme: More Than Words, Song For Love

Skid Row: I Remember You

Night Ranger: Forever All Over Again

Mr. Big: To Be With You

Damn Yankees: High Enough

Journey: When You Love A Woman, We Will Meet Again,

The Cult: Edie (Ciao Baby)

Danger Danger: I Still Think About You, Don't Walk Away

Hardline: Can't Find My Way

Glass Tiger: The Dance

Colin James: Five Long Years

Winger: Miles Away

Kim Mitchell: All We Are

Honeymoon Suite: What Does It Take

Hmmmm....

As for Whitesnake, my fav songs've always been Here I Go Again (the 1987 album version) and Still Of The Night.

Remember Dave Coverdale's advice tho.....

Anything by U2 that you'd consider a ballad, put it down here...

Peter Frampton - "Baby I Love Your Way"
The Firm - "Satisfaction Guaranteed"
Aerosmith - "Angel"
Cheap Trick - "Heaven Tonight"
Def Leppard - "Hysteria"
Guns 'n f'n Roses - "November Rain"
J. Geils Band - "Theresa"
Led Zeppelin - "Thank You"
Rolling Stones - "Almost Hear You Sigh"
David Lee Roth - "Tell The Truth"

So many others...

For the most part I hate ballads due to the fact that they're gay (i.e. Can't Stop Loving You) but the ones I actually do like in no particular order are...

1. Thunder Road - Bruce Springsteen
2. The Rain Song - Led Zeppelin
3. She's Always A Woman - Billy Joel
4. Do You Remember? - Phil Collins
5. China Girl - David Bowie (if that counts)
6. Why Can't This Be Love - Van Halen
7. Dance the Night Away - Van Halen
8. 1983...(A Merman I Should Turn To Be) - Jimi Hendrix
9. Love Song - Tesla
10. How Many Say I - Van Halen (yeah right )

Shit, I forgot "Estranged" by GNR. Great tune.

Dude... I love that tune. I think I even prefer it to November Rain.

Well, I wouldn't call them homosexual, but a number of them do certainly suck. Especially the really cheesy ones of the 80s.

Anything by David Gray, Pete Yorn, Shawn Mullins, STP, or any talented singer songwriters who mean what they are writing about.

A really good song: Coldplay- Trouble
"There's a time and place for everything- for everyone."

Hey their's nothing wrong with a good ballad. Yankees list kicks ass!!! I'd also add the following tracks:

Saigon Kick-Love Is On The Way
Coverdale/Page-Take me for a little while
Warrant-Stronger Now, Heaven, Blind Faith
Triumph-Just One Night
Cinderella-Don't know what you got till it's gone
Slaughter-Fly to the Angels
Edf Leppard-Miss you in a heartbeat
Steelheart-Angel Eyes
Firehouse-Love of a lifetime, when i look into your eyes
Ain't I just a romantic?
"It's now officially 5150 time!!!"

Comparing it to other VH songs like "Everybody Wants Some!!", "Ain't Talkin' Bout Love", "Hot for Teacher" etc. I would definitely consider WCTBL a ballad. It's not exactly a balls out rocker.

You can't forget Against All Odds. That's got to be my favorite Phil Collins song. (Admit it, though - those of you that saw Tarzan secretly enjoyed You'll Be in My Heart)

Ahhhhhhhh... ya beat me to it. Never did hear the song, though--wonder how it goes?

Something in the same vein would be Alice In Chains' "Love Song" the untitled one from SAP.

I think everyone forgot about AC/DC's "Mistress For Christmas"! Angus sets the mood in that one; it makes me wanna snuggle up with the Mrs.!

All very good choices, here are a few others:

Coverdale/Page - 'Take a Look at Yourself'

and from Coverdale's latest album "Into the Light", the last song on it, called 'Wherever you May Go', is a great song.
