NEWS - Nirvana's Greatest Hits Due In October
    08/23/2002

(8/23/02, 3 p.m. ET) -- Nirvana's Greatest Hits is set to hit stores October 22, according to a Universal Music release schedule. It's the first greatest hits package by the trio, and it's rumored to feature a previously unreleased track, "You Know You're Right."

Although the song's inclusion hasn't been confirmed, it's thought that the track is part of a legal settlement being worked out between former Nirvana members Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic, and Courtney Love, widow of the late Kurt Cobain, who wrote and sang most of the band's material. Grohl and Novoselic are in a battle with Love for control of the Nirvana LLC, which controls all management decisions for the band. Love successfully lobbied for an injunction that prevented the winter 2001 release of a Nirvana boxed set that was to feature "You Know You're Right" and other rarities.

Love's breach-of-contract case with Universal, separate from the Nirvana LLC case, was postponed on Tuesday (August 20), with talks continuing in hopes of reaching an out-of-court settlement.

So are the proceeds being split evenly among the surviving members AND Courtney? I dunno if I'd buy one if SHE'S making $$$ off of it.

I'm not a big fan.....but I do like the shit on the radio......so this could be a good CD for me to score......but then........let me get a track listing......then it's off to WinMx!!!!
Actually I think most of us are Dave, Sam, and Mike fans. There's just a small group of people who have strange allegiances and like to get into petty pissing contests that I can't believe everyone on this site isn't bored of. - Brett

I am from Seattle and biased. I heard Nirvana's Bleach record before anybody cared. A buddy of mine said in 1990-"listen to this, its grunge" I am a classic rock fan, but for some reason have a soft spot for Nirvana. Look past the popularity and hype and its heavy, refreshing music for a time when rock was polished crap.

Ugh, Nirvana used to be my favorite band when I was in middle school(probably because it was "cool" to lsiten to them). I pulled out one of their CD's about a week ago, listened to it, then threw it away. What garbage! It really was terrible, I was ashamed to have ever liked them. Poor lyrics, poor musical talent, and just all around poor song writing. I mean, I laugh when I see Nirvana finish ahead of bands Like Van Halen on those top 50 hard rock bands ever lists. And whoever thinks Cobain was an excellent songwriter- listen to these songs, and tell me with a straight face that he had talent. Because to say he could write good lyrics, songs, or guitar parts, is an utter and laughable joke.

    So yeah, I hate Nirvana!

I'm no huge Nirvana fan, though I was back when they were big. I think your opinion there is a little harsh on them. I will say that most the other Seattle bands were light years ahead of them as far as musicianship, and songwriting talent. Bands like Soundgarden, Alice in CHains and Pearl Jam blow Nirvana out of the water in that respect. I think Nirvana made such an impact because there songs were so simplistic, and extremely catchy, in a time of watered down pop-rock and over-the-top glitz and glam.

Well, im 29 and I would still consider myself a Nirvana fan, hell, they came along during a really sad period in music, and destroyed allot of bands that I really don't care to mention.

I can see how other's wouldn't like them, but remember how refreshing that stuff sounded when it came out.
