MARIAH CAREY Covers DEF LEPPARD! - Oct. 23, 2002

MARIAH CAREY has recorded a cover version of DEF LEPPARD's 1981 hit "Bringin' On the Heartbreak" for her upcoming release, "Charmbracelet", according to Fox News.

"I know it sounds weird, and that it probably won't work, but guess what? At last night's [Oct. 22] listening party for Carey's new disk, this was one of the many applauded tracks on an album full of potential hits," writes Fox reporter Roger Friedman.

"Charmbracelet" is due on December 10 and is the first release on Carey's own MonarC Music imprint via Island Def Jam.

    Interesting....

I can't wait to hear it.

I'm a big Def Lep fan as well as a Mariah Carey fan. Albeit I haven't enjoyed much of Mariah's new material. (Def Lep's either for that matter, Ha! ) Ever since she broke up with her husband (can't remember his name) her music has gone downhill...

The ones made out of stone called "statues" -- occasionally came to life and rode off is a colonial cliche. How many more times do we need to hear about how the oppressive Raj's wore villainous black capes, crafted cunning plastic masks to impersonate people, and drained all the blood from their slaves so they could keep the fluid in bottles in their dungeons? Interesting..... Might sound good. Say what you want about Mariah Carey, but she DOES have an extraordinary voice that blows the socks off any of the more recent "Divas" such as Britney and Christina Agularia (sp)

And Mariah DID cover a Journey song once, so this isn't that odd.

I'm wondering how bad this cover is going to sound. Yes, she has a good voice but covering a rock and roll song is a different animal.

I did happen to catch a part of 'Divas Las Vegas' the other day. Celine Dion and Shakara were doing a cover of the AC/DC tune 'Shook Me All Night Long'. It was terrible!

So did I. Seeing Celine playing air guitar, singing AC/DC...I couldn't change the channel fast enough. I don't think I want to hear Mariah singing Def Leppard either.

Now i'd love to shake Shakira "all night long" but man, of all the songs they could've chosen...yikes.

Next thing you know, The Judds will be singing a cover of "Only" by Anthrax

Mariah has 15 #1 hits, which is 3rd all time. I would venture to say that 95% of the public couldn't name 3 of them.

Shakira's gonna be playing here in San Diego next month. I think I'll just have to take one for the team and work her show that night!

On a separate note, speaking of remakes an' such, has anyone here heard Dolly Parton's "update" of Zeppelin's "Stairway To Heaven"? I did, and all I have to say is "Jeez"...she needs to be given life in front of a firing squad for raping the shit out of that.

Crown thy good into temptation but deliver us from the twilight's last gleaming. Amen and Awomen. ."

Wait wait wait, did you really say Dolly fucking Pardon the hell out of me remade "Stairway to heaven"? What the fuck is this world coming to man? That is just not right. No, sir, not right at all.

Can't say I'm a fan. I've never understood why the teenie bopper/whiny whitegirl bands feel it necessary to desecrate the works of classic rock bands. Also, I find it hard to admire artists who say such dumb things as:

"Whenever I watch TV and see those poor starving kids all over the world, I can't help but cry. I mean I'd love to be skinny like that, but not with all those flies and death and stuff,"
    --Mariah Carey

Gotta love the intelligence and sensibility of our modern day American idols...

Look at the people who have been president in the US so far... could I DO ANY WORSE?"<br /> <br />~ Frank Zappa
