Excellent film, but who was the real "Stillwater" for the soundtrack?

I'm at work, so I can't look at the CD...if I remember correctly, Nancy Wilson co-wrote the tunes...and the musicians are from Seattle.

Don't quote me though..I'll have to look.

I think either Stone Gossard or Mike McCready played guitars, I'm just curious who's singing (if it isn't Jason Lee)!

Wow! Thanks! Why does that singer's name sound familiar?

Allman Brothers with a little bit of Led Zep thrown in!

If you have the DVD, there's a great piece about Cameron Crowe, the writer and director who the main character is based on. He actually went on the road with the Allman Brothers in the early 70's as a writer for RS. He also toured with some others, but I think most of the movie experiences come from the Allman Brothers tour.

I think Crowe really captured rock and roll in that time period--that whole "doped up and need a bath" look.

I just got the new double-disc version of the DVD entitled "Untitled". Great disc!

I knew that was too easy.

At first I had heard Zep was the inspiration but that was just a Zep fan telling me this when the movie first came out. I just recently read an issue of a quartely fan-magazine from tha Allmans (remeber when VH had one ) & they had a big article in it about Cameron Crowe & his experiences with the Allmans & how the movie was based on touring with the Brothers.

    Sorry for the simple trivia.

Actually the "Stillwater experience" is a mixture of all the bands Crowe toured with. Led Zeppelin is the first band that he toured with at the age of 15. Hence all the underage girls in the movie. However, I do think the Allman Brothers are the band that he featured in Rolling Stone, since Zep dispised the rag. I do know for a fact that the guitarist (Russell) is based on Glenn Frey of the Eagles, and probably all of the band in-fighting in the movie is based on them. I always wondered who Penny Lane was based on!

BTW, Almost Famous is my fav. rock movie to date, although Rock Star is pretty entertaining as well!

    Hmm..

The only thing I can find on Marti Fredericksen is that he's done some work on the upcoming Def Leppard CD.

Was he in an '80s band???

He's also been involved in the two most recent Aerosmith studio albums - song writing credits and Just Push Play has him listed under "recorded by" (along with Richard Chycki).
