Jerry (Ex Alice in Chains) Cantrell's Degradation Trip hits the stores this Tuesday, 6/18! I've had this record in my possession for 4 months now and it hasn't left my CD changer since! This record is a huge step up from his last solo record Boggy Depot and has the dark tone that you've heard in previous AIC records with help from Robert Tujillo and Mike Bordin ( both from Ozzy's current band). Stand out tracks include Spider Bite, Bargain Basement Howard Hughes, Solitude, Anger Rising, and Angel Eyes .(Though, there isn't a "filler" track on the whole CD!)

He only plays guitar on Anger Rising , which is the first single. Chris left to pursue the fiasco that was Spys 4 Darwin , with Sean Kinney and Mike Inez of AIC and Sponge-vocalist Vin, which never even saw their record released. (You can find their debut ep on www.spys4darwin.com if they still sell it or dowload it off of the web-I thought it was terrible!) Chris is currently rumored to be re-joining Queensryche next Spring after the current members let their various solo projects fizzle.

i dunno, man...one thread, you're ranting and raving about Korn, which the rest of us know is trash, and now we're supposed to take your recommendation on this one?

just kidding... i heard one of the new Cantrell tracks on WMMS this afternoon, and it was pretty cool. i missed the intro, so i don't know which one it was, but i may check it out. 'specially if i can score it for $9.99 or so. i'll check Best Buy later in the week...

BestBuy and Circuit City are selling it for $11.99 this week.

(Maybe I should've left KoRn in the closet?)

I've heard 'Angel Eyes', 'Anger Rising' and 'Gone', and they're all awesome! 'Gone' is a great, great song.

I'm seeing Cantrell this weekend opening with Nickelback. I wish Jerry was closing!!

I heard his new song on the radio over the weekend and thought it was pretty good. It's great to hear some good rock n roll being played for a change.

Jerry Cantrell Degradation Trip (Roadrunner) Alice in Chains have finally given up the ghost with the death of frontman Layne Staley, but the band's spirit is alive and well in the solo work of guitarist (and primary AIC songwriter) Jerry Cantrell. His second outing is less adventurous than 1998's (sadly overlooked) Boggy Depot, with no brassy outbursts by errant Fishbone members or moody piano excursions. It's a gritty, cryptic, sprawling affair that takes its bittersweet time telling tales inspired by the hellhound that's been on Cantrell's trail for the past few years. Some tracks sound like wayward AIC numbers ("Psychotic Break"), while others reveal quirky streaks ("Mother's Spinning in her Grave (Glass Dick Jones)" and a not-quite-pop penchant ("She Was My Girl"). There's no happy ending when all is said and done, but it's a more poetic trip than most angst merchants offer these days, and for that reason alone it's a journey worth taking. (SANDY MASUO)

Thanks for reminding me about this FH. I downloaded every song yesterday and all of them kick ass. Cantrell is the man, I'll definitely pick it up on Tuesday.

*Shameless bump* I can't believe (well, with the current-state of the music-biz-maybe I can!) this record only sold 32,000 copies, debuting at #33 on Billboard! Some of you guys have missed out on a great guitar-driven, rock record!
