Can someone please help me out with why people make a big deal about this band?? They are good but I mean people make this band out to be like Zeppelin or the Beatles. One of my local radio stations here in Philly does a show at night around 10pm and it's called "Mandatory Metallica".

I like some of their stuff (Master Of Puppets, Black Album, Load), but I don't see why so many people think they're the greatest band around.

Yep the "Mandatory Metallica" thing is on alot of radio stations. But like several have stated, I can listen to several of their songs. But their recent Napster thing did kind of piss me off. Oh well, I'm Halen to the bone, so I really don't care too much about Metallica. Out.

When Metallica was at their best, they didn't get any radio play, didn't make any videos, and didn't have so many fans.

I've heard Led Zep, and Metallica is no Led Zep.

Sorry if this is posted at a bad time. I guess I'm all outta touch about what's going on with this Metallica/VH board war or whatever it is. We all like different bands and music, and that's ok.

I'm not a major Metallica fan, but I do think they are better than most bands out there. And while I think their Napster situation is killing any credibility they might have still had, they do make interesting music.

Metallica came up as a monster underdog in a music scene that wanted to keep them out. And it took them long enough to break the door down that their fans are rabid for them. Which I think is why opinions on them are so extreme; people either want to kill you for badmouthing them, or they're REALLY angry about what Metallica are doing now.

Another thing is, they're road warriors; when they tour, they tour for a long time, longer than most bands of their stature. Which, again, causes people to love them all the more.

I don't care what anyone says, I still listen to Metallica. Sure I don't agree with them regarding Napster (And I think Lars is a fucking asshole) but you can't argue the mark they have made on rock and roll/heavy metal.

I still say the 2 best Metal albums ever made are: Ride The Lightning and Master Of Puppets. I still love to throw those in the CD changer and let 'em blast through my JBL speakers!

(Note: I don't consider Van Halen METAL, which is why they weren't mentioned)

    Van Halen IS rock!
