All websites have a beginning so I must ask, how did VHLinks come about?
It seems the main man is Brett, but who else is administration?
How did the moderators finally fit in?

Well I did this a long time ago somewhere, someone else asked me this. But I'll say again.

I got the idea to build a site as a centralized list of Van Halen-related web sites, since nobody else was doing it very well, except the VHND (and even Grant's list was pretty incomplete). So I started to build the site in June of 1999 and by September 2, 1999, I felt it was complete enough and unveiled it. The message board opened the same day, but it was basically an after thought, I wasn't going to even bother with a board and the hassles of running one.

Once Grant plugged the site on the VHND and we had a birthday thread on here for Ed in Jan. of 2000, the site got huge, the board started to really grow. It got so bad that I had to have a seperate server just for the forums, and until recently when I finally got a dedicated server, VHLinks and VHForums were on different servers all together. Of course other sites have popped up with boards, the PD was born, but we've been around all that time, plugging along.

There is really only one other person who has ever had any input in how the site looks and that's Top Timmy. He re-designed the VHL logo in March of 2000. If you guys remember the original one, it was a pretty sad effort that I did. Anyways, while I still handle basically all of the day-to-day administrative garbage, Tim does help me with server and other site issues when I need him, and does design all the graphics and we work together when we redesign the site or make other changes.

As for the message boards, well I am proud that we have had VERY little moderator turnover. Our mods are a dedicated lot that's for sure. Most of them are here a lot, and have dedicated so many hours to this place, I can never thank them enough. It is their efforts that have helped grow and maintain this place. While the moderators don't have any direct role in site changes, they certainly get all the say they want with regards to the board, and the rest of the site as well. Goo was also the first person I allowed to have administrator privileges like me on the board (later Top Tim got admin rights as well).

In a nutshell, that's all there is to know about this place. It's a small operation.

Oh I actually found this if anyone wants a laugh or remembers it. The original logo we had for about 6 months.

Maybe you need to set up a seperate page accessable off the top menu - about VH Links/VH Forums - with the history and some of the old artwork and maybe the wall of fame of moderators, past and present, maybe even some threads of historical precedence - you know, like a little VH Links web museum or something! Maybe even have pictures of the mods, but since this is a Van Halen related site, you'd have to pretend like say, Glenn, never existed and not have his picture or barely mention him...

Billy, you know what, that's a actually a pretty damn cool idea ya got there. I've been bored looking for something to do with the site, since our fearless band has decided to do nothing it seems, so this might a cool project to pass some time.

Oh and of course we definitely wouldn't want to mention Glenn, I mean, we'd want people to actually look at the page, not run screaming.
