What would you call your favorite summer, in terms of music? For me, the best summer for music that I can recall is the Summer of 1981! Everytime I hear a song from that year(or that was still getting alot of airplay) I get a serious case of deja vu...

Here is a list of some favorites tunes I remember from the Summer Of 81:

Mean Streets
So This Is Love?
Back In Black
Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap
The Waiting (Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers)
Bette Davis Eyes (Kim Carnes)
Crazy Train (Ozzy)
Tom Sawyer (Rush)
Limelight (Rush)
Burning For You (BOC)
Another Brick In The Wall (Pink Floyd)
My Sharona (The Knack)
Shattered (The Stones)

I know there are probably a few here that I mentioned that weren't released yet in '81; that is just my old memory failin' me

Back then, when a band released an album, it was an EVENT! And it almost always kicked ass... Even the one hit wonders were cool sometimes.

shit man, I dont know how you remember what songs came out 20 years ago. In the summer no less. I'm lucky if I can pin down the 1/2 decade or so, but that sounds like a pretty good list to me

Guns and Roses Appetite for Destruction

I remember one particular summer, forget the year might have been 82, but Def Leppard's (only good album) came out Pyromania! That album brings back memories, and around the same time, cheesy I know, but REO Speedwagon's 'Hi Fidelity' came out and the song 'Tough Guy's' blew me away (the guitar) especially the pinched harmonic on the main riff. But I was only around 12 years old so what the hell do I know.

The 1980 album 'Back in Black' will always be a huge memory spring, summer, fall or winter! That album to me defines 'hard rocking roll'. Lot of respect for that band I have, not a huge fan, but a very uncomprimising band. No 'Aeroshit ballads' there!

Since I grew up in the 90's, I'll pick 1994.

Soundgarden - Superunknown
Stone Temple Pilots - Purple
Alice In Chains - Jar Or Flies
Collective Soul - Hints Allegations & Things Left Unsaid
Live - Throwing Copper

I've got lots of great music from every year I've been alive, some better than others, but most blessed with a good number of great songs. However, there are three that stick out because of the events of the summer mixing with the magic of the music to etch long lasting memories on my brain.

1975 - Wiffle Ball from morning to night and the Red Sox in the series accompanied by many of the highlights from my "pop" years (which I won't list here for fear of being run out of town!)

1984 - free from college and having my first real love to tunes from 1984, the Police's Synchronicity, Huey Lewis & The News' Sports, the Cars' Heartbeat City and many others (a lot released in 1983, but still steaming in '84).

1987 - a 20,000 mile drive around my favourite country to the beat of U2's The Joshua Tree, Bryan Adams' Into The Fire & Dave's Eat 'Em And Smile and along the way picking up Def Leppard's real best album Hysteria , Aerosmith's Permanent Vacation and the Cars' Door To Door.

I agree man. I remember that clear as day.

Some others I remember buying at that time were:

Beastie Boys "Ill Communication" (although I hate it now)
NIN "The Downward Spiral"
Pantera "Far Beyond Driven"
Megadeth "Youthanasia"

Im surprised nobody hasn't mentioned 1992 yet. Hell even VH-1 did a Behind the Music show featuring the music of 1992. For those of you with a limited memory problem...that would be when Grunge reared it's ugly head.
