yes i saw dlr live thought he was good, when gnr came out i bought their albums and i saw them live and i liked the show.
i should have said i do not like the new gnr and i think now axle voice sounds bad, maybe it was just that show for mtv.
i do agree all the other shit that was on the show sucked(boybands, rap, dance, etc)
and back in the 80's early 90's i think dlr was way better then axle sorry that is how i feel.
i have not seen dave live this summer so i wont compare the two of them now. i just said i thought axle was bad on the vma's. yes i know he can have an off night just like anyone.

He was probably just rusty, he looked like he was out of breath about two minutes into the thing.

Axle sounded like he always did. Some nights he's better, some he's not. I have tons of live GnR and some of it from the 80's sounds worse than MTV the other night.

Anyone ever hear their MTV concert, Live at the Ritz? Horrible. He sounds like a frog with a sore throat.
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em. -

I had the misfortune of paying hard-earned money to see GNR twice during their heyday, including once in a club just as "Appetite" was beginning to break, and Axl sucked truckloads of ass both times. Actually, the first time, on the AFD tour, they ALL sucked... they were all so fucked up they were knocking mic stands over. The band was much better at the second show, with Metallica, but Axl pretty much cemented his status with me as the worst live "singer" I've ever seen. Dude sounded like a cat being slowly castrated with a dull butterknife!

So no, it wasn't just an aberration, Axl's sucked for many, many years now.

I think "Assle" made the mistake of running at full speed and put himself out of breath. The very opening wail of "Jungle" seemed to show some promise (compared to the last time they, well-he, performed it years ago on the same show) I saw them years ago before they were even known opening for Motley Crue and they used to "huddle" between songs and figure out what they were going to play next. They spent so much wasting time between songs that they only played about 5 or 6 songs for their 45 minute set. I was pretty stoned at the time and can't really recollect how good they were other than I thought Slash was going to be the only "big thing" to come out of the band. I remember discussing that the band would go nowhere and that Slash (didn't even know his name at the time) would turn up in another band that would be great. Kind of ironic, huh?
