I was shocked as the announcer at the Fiesta Bowl said "the legendary rock group Boston will play our National Anthem.....instrumentally".
I thought it was an abomination. I rank it right up there with Stephen Tyler's version earlier this year. They gave it a shot, and I am NOT knocking Boston (or Tyler). I just think their interpretations of that particular song are horrible. Any thoughts?

I saw it, but missed the announcement. Basically I flipped it on right as the guitarist was starting his pick slides. I thought to myself "that guitar really sounds like Tom Scholz and Boston.." and he kinda looked like Tom, but not really. So I was never sure it was Boston until I saw your post.

Yes, it sucked. Big time.

I thought Lyndsey Buckingham's performance of "Here Comes the Sun" in the tribute to George Harrison on ABC was terrible.

Yup, 20 years later and he still sounds like he is playing through one of those Rockmans. Dude could use a new rig eh?

That Boston rendidtion of the Star Spangled Banner was identical to the one they used to have on their website, which is apparently the same as the one on their "Greatest Hits" album. Since I have all 3 true Boston albums and won't buy any of that shit without Delp singing, I can't completely verify that.

It's too bad that Boston didn't come back and play at halftime. Or did they? I would be pissed off if I found out that the ABC assholes refused to televise it so they could endlessly kiss Miami and Nebraska's collective pathetic asses.

At least Boston will release an album in the first quarter of 2002. If that doesn't embarrass VH into action, nothing will.

I missed it, but having heard Buckingham's singing at the Mac reunion in 97, maybe that's a good thing? There's one guy whose voice didn't degrade gradually, it jumped off a cliff.

The irony here is that Bon Jovi's cover of Here Comes The Sun at the VH1 awards (the week after George's death) was actually good

FORD, considering your opinions on the other "corporate rock" bands of the 70's and 80's (ie: Journey, Styx, REO, 38 Special, etc), I'm kinda surprised to read that you like Boston. That's cool though...I'm with you. I don't care about anything else after the first 3. Whatever...

Your comments about ABC kissing Nebraska & Miami had me on the floor! I'll be glad when it's over. What did you think about the Ducks victory?

Hey, when I was in Junior High, I liked Styx and Journey. Because they were good then. That was before Cain ruined Journey, and before Styx tried to do rock operas. I never really cared for REO Speedaddicts, I'll admit. My main comments about "Journey" and "Styx" of today is that they are both frauds. As for 38 Special, while they gradually slid downhill from wild eyed Southern boy rock to top 40 pop, I don't believe I ever lumped them in with the corporate cheese factory. In fact, I have to respect them slightly more than the FAKE Skynyrd (all the same family, of course).
I like Boston because it's a unique sound, great songwriting, melodies, production, etc. But without Brad Delp, half that sound is gone. He's just as important to Boston as Dave is to Van HALEN.

That's cool though...I'm with you. I don't care about anything else after the first 3. Whatever...

Delp is supposed to be back full time on the new album. That's the only reason I'm looking forward to it.

Your comments about ABC kissing Nebraska & Miami had me on the floor! I'll be glad when it's over. What did you think about the Ducks victory?

As a UW Huskies fan for life, it's my sworn duty to hate the Ducks during the regular season. After all, how dare any other team challenge our Pac 10 superiority.

But Oregon earned my respect this year. They are comparable to the 1991 Huskies right now, and just like that team, they'll probably get screwed out of a national championship that they have more than earned. Fuck the anti-Pac 10 polls. Fuck Nebraska.

Let's have an Oregon vs Miami game and settle this once and for all ....
