Listen to this recent Geoff Tate interview! It sounds like the members of Queensryche aren't getting along, Geoff says that the band members have a lot of hostility toward each other..

The interviewer also asked Geoff what the other band members thought of him doing his solo album and he said that he didn't know, and lately they only communicate through each others lawyers!?!

Geoff also says that Kelly Gray didn't enjoy touring with the band, and the band felt that he was seperating the band more. Queensryche is recording a new album but they aren't going to be seeing each other, they will all be recording their parts to songs seperately.

Geoff also said that he doesn't understand why Chris DeGarmo doesn't want to make music anymore, he says that Chris has a job as a pilot now. Geoff says that a true musician wouldn't take that job over being in a band. He said "I thought that Chris was musician, but I guess I was wrong".

QUEENSRŸCHE's GEOFF TATE: "We Talk Through Business Managers And Lawyers Now" - July 2, 2002

The remaining members of QUEENSRŸCHE—frontman Geoff Tate, guitarist Michael Wilton, bassist Eddie Jackson, and drummer Scott Rockenfield—do all their talking through "business managers and lawyers now," Tate revealed in an interview with Cleveland, Ohio's WMMS 100.7 FM this past Sunday, June 30th. "Every band has its own way of functioning," continued the singer. "There is no right way or wrong way. There just is…so, that just is [the way it is] for us."

When asked for his reasons for staying in QUEENSRŸCHE in light of the fact that the members of the band do most of their communication through managers and lawyers, Tate replied, "Hmm. God, good point! (laughs) Well, I've spent 20 years of my life working within that band and working with those people. Even though it's a very dysfunctional group of guys with a lot of hostility toward each other, it still works to some extent. Honestly, I just cannot wrap it up right now. I cannot face spending all those years doing it, and then walking away from it. If I can get one more record out of it, or maybe two or three more records out of it, then I'm going to try."

As to whether the tension within the band works to push the band forward in terms of their creativity, Geoff said, "Well, so far. I really can't answer that, honestly. We're at a point where…these last few months, we've been working at making the record, and the way we chose to do it this time was to not hire anybody in and not have somebody join the band, but to utilize some other writers to contribute songs to the record. Then, I would collaborate with those writers and come up with the songs. Once the songs were written, then I would hand them over to the other guys in QUEENSRŸCHE, and they would record them. When I get home from this tour, the plan is for me to do my vocal tracks at that time, and then have it mixed sometime in the fall and have it released at the end of the year. But, I can't really can't answer your question honestly now, because I haven't worked with those guys in months and months and months — actually, not since Q2K [was completed]."

Chris DeGarmo has had a pilot's license for over 10 years, so this shouldn't be a surprise to Tate. It's clear why Chris left the band: Poor management and no real communication between the band members. I remember reading interviews in Guitar World with Chris and Michael and it always seemed that Chris, in addition to being the principle song-writer, was basically the one that held everything together and was probably the band's "leader". He was probably tired of being the only member with a true creative initative. I can't say that I blame him for leaving the music biz!

What a drag, but I can't say I'm surprised. Take five kids who love metal and are creative and talented enough to make good metal, then throw in a coupla million bucks, tour schedules, dick head management suit motherfuckers, and what do you get? Capitalism crushing another god given gift into dust.

Queensryche will always be one of my most favorites. They did things different back in the day, and it was so refreshing.

I guess we can put an end to the rumors of DeGarmo returning to the Ryche.

QR hasn't put out a really good album in almost 10 years (Promised Land). That isn't likely to change anytime soon.

Hopefully Tate's solo disc will be worth listening to.

I just bought Geoff Tate's solo album today. IT REALLY SUCKS!!!!!!! I can't beleive how bad it is, don't buy it! Geoff's voice is distorted on most of the songs, there almost no guitar at ALL, just bad keyboards. I can't believe I wasted twenty bucks on this horrible CD!!! QUEENSRŸCHE's GEOFF TATE: "We Have Plans To Be A Band For A Long Time" - July 4, 2002

QUEENSRŸCHE have talked out their differences and have no plans to disband anytime in the near future, frontman Geoff Tate has confirmed via the group's official web site.

Responding to the mounting concern by the group's fans over the interview conducted with the singer by Cleveland, Ohio's WMMS 100.7 FM this past Sunday, June 30th in which Geoff indicated that all communication between the individual band members was being done strictly through business managers and lawyers, Tate stated the following: "In regard to the interview on WMMS, airing one's true feelings sometimes leads to reconciliation. Because of that interview ALL of QUEENSRŸCHE got together and we hashed out our thoughts and feelings over the phone. I am elated to say that we are working together better then we have in years and I am confident now that we will be able to deliver you an album finally worthy of the name QUEENSRŸCHE. Any relationship will hit snags now and again but we have made it through so much already and we have plans to be a band for a long time. Thanks for listening."

Meanwhile, QUEENSRŸCHE drummer Scott Rockenfield issued a statement of his own in an attempt to put the fans' minds at ease over the aforementioned interview.

"As far as QUEENSRŸCHE is concerned, I know that some of you have been confused about some recent interviews that have been done, and I feel that you should all know that Michael, Eddie and myself have been hard at work in the recording studio, and we have come up with some VERY heavy and DARK material for the new QUEENSRŸCHE release," Scott said. "We have been recording solid for the last two weeks, and so far all of the music is falling right into place for us! We are having a lot of fun working on this new material, and are excited to have everyone hear it!! Sanctuary Records is very pleased with our progress and they are expecting this to be an extremely unique record for QUEENSRŸCHE. We will actually be taking a break this weekend and the three of us and our families are going to have a long overdue barbeque together to clear our heads for next week's recordings..."

Ok, now we're talking. Step in the right direction. I hope they can continue to surprise the music world as they have with almost every album.

And Yankee I kinda agree. While I hesitate to say Tate's solo effort "sucks," I will say it will not see much rotation in my player. Flat is the word I'd give it. Way too touchy feely, nicey, girlish love song bullshit for me.

From www.melodicrock.com

MORE ON THE QUEENSRYCHE SITUATION:
Always great to see a new story form across the web from a link posted here. I refer to the WMMS interview of Geoff Tate, posted earlier this week.
Here's some more on the band's unusual set up.
Christophe Janssens of Rock Tribune Magazine in Belgium interviewed Tate over the phone last week.
Here's some of the interview details:
Kelly Gray was fired because he is an alcoholic and very difficult to work with - according to Geoff, the last couple of years in Queensryche haven't been fun...more like hell...
On the subject of Chris De Garmo, Geoff confirmed that the rumours of him coming back to QR are what they are: rumours.
Chris and Geoff still have contact from time to time, but apparently even until today Chris never gave an explanation why he left the band. When I asked Geoff the real reason why Chris left, he said he didn't knew, they never discussed that.
Obviously they don't really talk a lot to each other (apart of Queenrsyche business) because when I asked if bassist Eddie Jackson was also doing a solo project (since Geoff, Scott Rockenfield and Michael Wilton are all doing solo stuff), again he said that he didn't have a clue.
Apparently the members of the band are still together because of the coincidence that they met 20 years ago and that there is a certain chemistry. They make great albums and do a fine job as a band, but they are not really friends. Geoff said that none of the other members in the band are so called "friends" that he would hang out with or go out to have a drink with.
Tate goes on to say that for the first time in several years he is really enjoying himself now, with his current band, with whom he recorded his solo album - he will take the band on the road for +/- 35 concert dates in the States, through July and August. On the subject of coming over to Europe for solo concerts he said "We"re working on that".
Since they don't have a replacement yet for Kelly, Geoff thinks that Queensryche are gonna record their next album as a four piece, with Michael Wilton doing all the guitar parts. Then they will probably hire someone to do the tour. The band (mostly Geoff and outside songwriters) have been writing material over the last 2 or 3 months and they will probably begin recording in September.
When I asked why Geoff wouldn't take his guitar player from his solo band to QR, he said that the guy is way to nice and that he doesn't want to drag him into the hell that QR is...!
Geoff did say that this solo record is not a one off thing - he will continue to make solo records, besides QR.

Thanks to Christophe for that. Rock Tribune Magazine is available at every bookstore in Belgium and Holland and is written in Dutch. The magazine appears monthly (except in August). It costs 3 Euro. The July issue comes with a free CD.

Geoff Tate will be at Canes in San Diego towards the end of this month, FYI.
"Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that."

"This is a lttle prayer dedicated to the separation of church and state. I guess if they are going to force those kids to pray in schools they might as well have a nice prayer like this: Our Father who art in heaven, and to the republic for which it stands, thy kingdom come, one nation indivisible as in heaven, give us this day as we forgive those who so proudly we hail. Crown thy good into temptation but deliver us from the twilight's last gleaming. Amen and Awomen. ."

Well Diddle i'm glad that you can at least listen to it.

I think it sucks. I can't believe that such a great singer like Tate would release something so awful! It sounds like techno music to me instead of rock. I will try to listen to it again, i'm not looking forward to hearing it again though.

I wonder whatever happened to the "Three Tremors" project with Haford, Tate, and Dickinson?
