NEWS - Pink Floyd 'Dark Side Of The Moon' DVD-Audio Edition In Progress
12/17/2002

(12/17/02, 1 p.m. ET) -- It looks like Pink Floyd's Dark Side Of The Moon will soon be heard in a whole new way. Rumors have been circulating for a little while that a DVD-Audio (DVD-A) version of the album, remixed in 5.1 Surround Sound, is in progress, although a label spokesperson would only say that it's not on the release schedule. Now, however, Alan Parsons has confirmed the project's existence.

Speaking at the Surround 2002 Expo in Beverly Hills last week, Parsons said that the members of Pink Floyd have been working on a DVD-A Dark Side. However, Parsons added that even though he was the engineer on the original Dark Side sessions, and that he has a lot of ideas for the new project, the bandmembers have decided not to involve him in the process, according to a report on the audiophile website Audiorevolution.com.

Spokespeople for Parsons and Capitol Records were unavailable for further comment.

It should be noted that the 30th anniversary of the release of Dark Side Of The Moon is coming up in March.

I know this is probably blasphemy, but...
Anybody else think Dark Side is overrated? I mean, it's a good album, really good if you're high, but IMO it's not even Pink Floyd's best album, much less the all-time-classic so many people make it out to be.

[/QUOTE]Interesting...

Hey, I actually saw a band that called itself the Alan Parsons Project opening for Yes. Not too shabby. A bit weird to see Alan Parsons on stage though, he sort of looked like he should have been out mowing his lawn.

P1,

I think that in some ways 'Dark Side' is overrated, and in other ways it's underrated. I think that most rock fans that take a casual interest in Floyd tend to overrate the album, whereas the pop culture at large - when it looks back at the 70s - tends to overlook (and thus underrate) the significance of this album.

I like 'Dark Side' still, but for me it is just the 2nd of the string of 5 great Floyd albums released between '71 and '79. I'll listen to 'Meddle', 'Wish You Were Here' and 'The Wall' before I'll pull out 'Dark Side'.

'The Wall' has not always been my fave Floyd album, but sometime in the last 10 years that release crawled under my skin and entrenched itself as one of my Top 10 faves of all time. And it's an album that I never listen to because it's just too gut-wrenching.

The Real Deal
The Real Deal does old VH better than any other band in the SF Bay Area. Hearing is believing...
