With all the "top ten lists" a while back, I don't think this has been done before...

I like PF. Got many of their albums, my favorite being 1971's Meddle.

State you're top ten Pink Floyd songs. Here's mine:

    1. San Tropez (A little known Floyd song from the album Meddle. Very jazzy song. I recommend this to anyone who thinks Pink Floyd songs all sound "the same"

    2. Two Suns In The Sunset (Has there EVER been a more horrifying image of the apocylpse? Damn! This track from The Final Cut is FRIGHTENING. But it's really well done)

    3. Free Four (This song kicks ASS! It's from the album Obscured By Clouds. The lyrics are so damn biting...The whole song is a very typical Roger Waters song lyrically: A depressing biting look at growing older. But musically very uplifting)

    4. Mother (This song from The Wall is simply amazing! Again, Roger's lyrics can be pretty bleak at times. This one is all about a mother who holds the reins too tightly around her boy's neck...This is probably the first tune in my list you've heard of! )

    5. Fat Old Sun (This is a rare David Gilmour penned number, from the album Atom Heart Mother. Arguably one of the nicest sounding songs both musically AND lyrically, in the Pink Floyd canon)

    6. Shamus (This song from Meddle, is arguably the most "non-Pink Floyd" sounding songs they ever did. It's a great ol' bluesy number. A song about a dog, with barking included! Love this one!)

    7. Not Now John (This is arguably one of the heaviest songs Pink Floyd ever put to wax. Off of the album The Final Cut. The lyrics are GREAT. Especially the "Fuck All That" refrain....LOL)

    8. Lost For Words (This number is off of 1994's The Division Bell. David Gilmour's best song he ever wrote without Roger's input. In fact, this song really digs at Roger. The lyrics are SUPURB!)

    9. Wish You Were Here (Probably the MOST well known song on my list. I love this song. So beautiful...It brings a tear to my eye)

    10. If (A great sick number from Atom Heart Mother...Roger Waters is a great lyricist!)

    How about everyone else???

"Learning To Fly" (probably my favourite - played it once on an airplane and actually hit the point of take off in the song with the airplane's take off. Of course, if I hadn't had my headphones on, might've heard that portable CD players weren't supposed to be on at the time!)

    Hey Rod-

Glad someone else picked "Shamus"... Love that tune!!!

So unlike, what is typically thought of as a "Pink Floyd sounding" song one would hear on the radio....

I've fooled more that one person, by playing that song and asking who they thoguht the band was...!

That's funny, the first time I heard that song, I had no idea it was Floyd, blew me away. I love that tune.

I went & saw this band last year named Blue Floyd. A couple of guys from Gov't Mule & the ex-Black Crowes guitarist Marc Ford formed this band as a side project. They would do a bunch of Floyd tunes but change 'em up a little bit 'till they're more blues oriented. Pretty cool shit, they would do more than just Floyd tunes, they would whip out some great old blues tunes. Here's their website http://www.bluefloyd.com/ I'm not sure if they have any soundbytes or not but you might want to check 'em out if they play near ya.

What do you like about the song A saucerful of secrets? I do play it a lot but mostly in the background, or when I'm feeling quite dreamy.. but I don't really get why people see it as a classic.. to me it sounds like documentary music.. like the band could easily write another 10 songs like it.

or maybe there's something wrong with my hearing?

Not one of my favorite songs by them... Abetter one off that same album is "Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun" That one is so atmospheric and moody sounding. Very cool.
