Damn, I was really looking forward to hearing them. Maybe Soundgarden will get back together someday, but I doubt it.

Here's the article for anyone that doesn't want to click on the link:

Though no public confirmation has been released as of yet, sources close to the Rage Against The Machine/Chris Cornell project have now confirmed that Chris Cornell has sadly quit the group. The band were originally scheduled to release both a new album later this year as well as tour as a part of the U.S. Ozzfest bill this summer, though both opportunities now look to be scrapped. The reasons for the split remain unclear, though it is rumored that Cornell's heart wasn't fully into the project and as such he was taking extremely long to finalize his vocal parts for the bands material, a factor which reportedly caused tension within the band, not too mention the album's constant delays. It is unknown at present is the departure is past the point of a reconciliation or not, though official word is expected shortly.

I've put in a phone call to a friend of Susan Silverman's (Chris' wife and ex-manager) and she'll try to get some info on this. Hopefully, it's untrue.

    CHRIS CORNELL's Manager Confirms Singer's Departure From Supergroup - Mar. 25, 2002

Jim Guerinot, the manager of ex-SOUNDGARDEN frontman Chris Cornell, has reportedly confirmed that the singer has left the new supergroup he formed with former RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE members Tim Commerford (bass), Brad Wilk (drums), and Tom Morello (guitar). The unnamed band had originally started work on their never-completed debut album early last year and were due to perform at this year's US Ozzfest dates. An official announcement is expected in the coming days.

From what I've understood, Cornell sought the ex-Rage members out for this project and talked them into turning their jamming session into something more permanent. They were the ones keeping their options open at the time! I can't wait to hear the details on this one.

    From www.mtv.com

If Rage Against the Machine fans harbored some anger before, they're about to be really pissed.

Fans hoping to catch the first glimpse of the new, Chris Cornell-fronted group on this summer's Ozzfest will have to make do with the mental image they've built since the two parties began jamming together last year, as the former Soundgarden frontman has withdrawn from the project, effectively scrapping plans to participate in the annual summer metalfest.

The disappointing news comes just days after the group, which had yet to settle on a name, was announced as one of Ozzfest's mainstage attractions, along with Ozzy Osbourne, System of a Down, P.O.D. and Drowning Pool. A reason for the split wasn't given by Cornell's manager, who said only that the project was "no longer moving forward."

Cornell and Rage members Tom Morello (guitar), Tim Commerford (bass) and Brad Wilk (drums) recently finished recording an album's worth of material in a Los Angeles studio, and the resulting as-yet-untitled LP is still expected to be released this summer by Epic. The status of the now-vacant slot on the Ozzfest roster was unknown, as spokespeople for the tour organizers didn't return calls by press time. A management representative for the Rage members had no comment on the split.

The former Soundgarden vocalist joined up with the Rage guys last year, following the departure of singer Zack de la Rocha in October 2000.

Ozzy Osbourne, for one, must be devastated upon receiving word of Cornell's decision. He called Cornell his "favorite singer" in an interview with MTV News days before he and his family announced the Ozzfest 2002 lineup at a press conference Thursday in New York .

This totally sucks!!!! I was really, really looking forward to this collaboration!! I've been reading the Ozzfest/Ozzy and Chris Cornell boards the last few days, reading these rumors. I was just hoping they weren't true. I believe your info FH. I just hope the new music gets leaked somehow too! You would think the album is done now! Maybe they'll release it and just not tour

According to MTV, Epic records is still planning on releasing it. This might be a little out of some listening pleasures, but check out The Crystal Method's contribution to the Resident Evil soundtrack "The Name of the Game". Tom Morello co-wrote it and plays guitars on it. It's kind of a funk/hip-hop/techno sound that's actually pretty cool. (I like the guitars for the most part)
