My vote would certainly not go to anyone in the mainstream right now. In my opinion, popular music is at an all time low...especially for guitar playing. The best guitarists right now are in underground bands most have never heard of most likely.

I think the terms "best" and "new guitar player" are contradictory. The only reletively new guitar virtuosos would have to be in either a progressive metal band or a local band that hasn't "made it" yet.

I would definitely say Kenny Wayne Shepherd. Even though he's been around a few years he's only like 20 yrs old. He is a throwback, and an amazing guitarist in the vein of Page and Clapton. He WILL be one of the greats in time.

In my opinion, Creed's guitarist isn't anything special. But I can't really think of any guitarist that stands out today. I do like the band Corrosion of Conformity, though. They are heavy metal and have a pretty good guitarist.

Kenny Wayne Sheppard. One of the few guitatar prodigies if not the only one to be introduced in the last 4-5 years.

Music ain't that bad... some actually suck, but not most of it. And it looks like rock is getting a new life this days. Lets hope that when the boys in the band decide to come back- everything is set for the end of the bubblegum music, we have today.

    Let's see there's...

Billy Howerdel and Troy Van Leeuwen from A Perfect Circle
    Wes Borland from Limp Bizkit
    Adam Jones from Tool
    Trey Spruance from Mr Bungle
Tom Morello from Rage Against the Machine

...even though some of these guys have been around for awhile.

Tony Rombola said Godsmack are going to bring back the guitar solo so that sounds good. Tony is no virtuoso, but he is a good, solid player and songwriter. In my book, that beats virtuosity any day. Also, the guy from Lit is pretty good and Tom Morello has introduced a whole new style of playing in my opinion.

I like Tremonti's style. His intros are almost classical and the guy can write some cool riffs.
